After doing a search for inexpensive unconstested divorce, this shister comes up. Apparently the Goggle Ad words campaign works really well. I was immediately taken to the check out where I was charged 349. I received an email requesting information to process the divorce. After I sent it 48 hours later, I was to hear nothing from him (steve Brodsky) for 4 weeks and 5 days. I would call the numbers on his website not once did anyone answer. Not once. Mornings, afternoons or evenings.

It was only after I sent emails that expressed my irration and threathen to report him to this site as well as others, he finally responded. Citing he was busy and apologetic as he had other clients and that 1000 of clients couldn't be wrong. Apparently Im the only one out of 1000's hes dealt with this way.
He told me he was going to check with his process server to see if the papers where served.

The next email was 2 weeks later at the of November, we are about 6 weeks in and no papers served nothing. As always I sent an email and received no response.

Next e-mail 7 days later and no response.

Next e-mail 11 days later, just as with all the rest no response.

The next e-mail 20 days later, New Years Eve. No response.

I sent my last e-mail 01-09-08. I told him if I did not hear for him by the 14th of January, I was going to dispute my credit card payment and report him as a fraud.
Today 01-10-08 I receive a 2 line e-mail explaining that he could not process my divorce, and he'd be refunding my fee.
Thats all well and good, but 12 weeks and 4 days later you tell me this?
If I had not communicated with and threathen exposure how long would I have had to wait?

What happens to all the information he has? How can I protect myself from my information floating around with this lawyer-loser?

I believe he is a lawyer, but I doubt he has an office. I think his offices are all vitrual, and he operates from his home. This is okay, that in and of itself does not make him a fraud. Its all the claims that you'll receive an answer via email within one day, that happen 2x both after I threathen a refund and exposure. Also no one live ever answered my phone calls. Ever.

My husband contacted Brodsky Law Firm to file an uncontested divorce in NY. We paid a substantial deposit in order to start filing. It's been weeks now and we haven't heard from this scumbag. We have called and left messages for weeks and even sent emails. I called and left a voice mail stating that we will no longer require his services and would like a refund on our deposit since no paperwork has even been filed out....again, no return calls.

I have found another law firm in NY that will do the divorce and charge less (the new firm only charges $299).

I suggest you don't waste your time or money on this scum, his license should be revoked. We are in the middle of obtaining another attorney to get our deposit back.

Client was "fired" for various reasons

#4REBUTTAL Owner of company

As a busy law firm with low, no-nonsense fees of only $97/hour, I reserve the right to "fire" clients, just as they have the right to discharge me as their attorney. I have developed a good sense over the years for potentially troublesome clients. When I get the feeling that a client is not worth the fees they are paying me, for one reason or another, I politely tell them to find another lawyer. There are plenty of lawyers that charge $300 per hour who are willing to put up with abusive clients.

Having said that, the client in question sent me a series of increasingly frantic and somewhat irrational emails & voice mails which led me to believe that I would have trouble finishing their case & getting paid. When a client, early in a case, starts threatening me with chargebacks, I am understandably wary of spending any more time or money with the possibility of having my fees summarily revoked.

I am fortunate that my practice is busy enough so that I can afford to refuse to work with problem clients. The 1000+ clients who have worked with me successfully are quite happy, inasmuch as they received top-quality results for 50% to 70% lower fees. One look at my website will explain my revolutionary philosophy.

Lastly, for the record, I have always maintained a real office. Yes, quite often callers will get my voice mail, but that's a small price to pay for the service they receive versus the price they pay. My clients don't seem to mind. I keep my expenses low by not paying a secretary, paralegal, or receptionist. I can't always get to every phone call as they come in because I see clients, go to court, go to lunch, have meetings, go to the bathroom, etc. However, I answer or return all calls myself. If one prefers to never ever get voice mail, they are certainly free to contact an expensive lawyer with a live secretary.
