Complaint Review: Brooks College

I Attended Brooks College fresh out of Highschool. I had seen so many commercials on how the Fashion Industry was thriving , so i decided to join in. I started on 2002, the classes were nice and counselors were super friendly. Since i had just turned 18 i was given the paperwork to sign and take out a loan. The counselor also convinced my mother to take out a loan and be a co-signer. I ended up doing one semester, I remember then hearing a teacher how hard it was to get a job in the industry now, but i brushed it off.. Next semester came and the los angeles bus strike happened. Since i lived in Los Angeles and always took the metro to long beach, i wasnt able to continue. Books were purchased and classes were paid. a week after class started  called my counselor saying i was not able to attend school. To please put classes on hold, so my loans would not be used for classes i was not taking. she said okay. The semester ended and i was already looking for a school, closer to Los Angeles. I went back to Brooks t talk to my counselor and to my surprise she was no longer working there. I asked if my classes had been put on hold and they said they did not do that. that money had already been payed. Also to my surprise when i tried returning books they had already upgraded edition, and books that i had spent hundreds of dollars on were no longer worth anything. It seemed that all of a sudden this school wasnt so nice anymore. I ended up leaving and started anothe Fashion Design program in the Art Institute, another HUGE mistake.. Fast forward a few years ago i did a settlement for two loans through MOHELA, and paid over $1,000 then to my surprise i have 3 more Federal loans that exceed $7,000 and my mother has a loan for 20,000. I only went for one semester and thinking back and going through my loans this year it was impossible for me to hae amounted to almost 30,000 in debt. i not only felt cheated in my education, but robbed money that i never even saw. I am really angry that this has ruined my credit and ive had a headache for years just thinking about this, i recenlty contacted a lendedr and they couldnt even give me information onto what years or how much i originally owed. They said it was my "responsibility" to keep paperwork. i am really looking to file a complaint. if you also went to Brooks College, and are unhappy please contact me at : ***-***-****.
