Simply put, the seemingly kind and knowledgeable owner sold me a used handgun (SW40VE) that, brand new, costs $300 for $425. I was a novice at the time and trusted him to provide me with honest answers to the few questions I asked him.

Check any gun shop or internet weapon supplier if you'd like to see proof of the prices...

He told me the gun was used, and said he was giving me a discounted price. Even as I tried to negotiate the price down, as you usually can at pawn and gun shops, he would not go lower then $399.00 plus tax, which, once again, he assured me was a discounted price.

He exploited my naivety about firearms and did so with a smile. I am now more of an intermediate gun enthusiast and realize that I should have purchased this used weapon, at most, for $200.

I own a business and this is not how to conduct one. Not all gun salesman are snakes but buyer beware at Broward Pawn & Gun.

The gun purchased was a previously owned but in new condition firearm, possibly even never shot. The firearm suggested retail as per manufactuers site is $482.00:

http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=11101&storeId=10001&productId=14819&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=15713&isFirearm=Y

I then googled the weapon and found this site:

http://www.gunsinternational.com/S&W-SW40VE-SEMI-PISTOL.cfm?gun_id=100078919&CFID=4923032&CFTOKEN=e29be04323fc0c6b-C9DDD978-010A-93E8-D0B0C82E8C0CEE39

Please notice from this site, the price of this weapon is $419 which reflects a 3% cash discount so if you pay with a credit card the price is $431 PLUS shipping PLUS a transfer fee which averages about $40 bringing this total now to around $480+

Here is a 2nd site:

http://www.proguns.com/smithwesson-sw40ve.asp

The price is $426 and again PLUS shipping and transfer fee coming in again approx $480

There may be sites that are lower but the 1st two that I checked were not and clearly shows we appropriately priced the weapon.

It is unfortunate that this purchaser feels so "expolited". If he was unable to talk down the price to an amount he was comfortable with and/or had any doubt regarding the value, he could have walked out the door and NOT purchased it, we live in a free market society. Perhaps he may consider to do some research thoroughly prior to making accusations about a purchase being "over priced". He was given a fair price for a gun that was barely or possible never used.

It is regrettable the customer had to come to a public forum in an attempt to give us negative publicity as he is supposedly a business owner himself. Our business has been here for 20+ years and have never had such an open accusatory public complaint.
