We met Gil Finley about a year ago. We thought it would be an awesome chance to build our business, make some money and also some new friends. We couldent have been more wrong. Gilbert Finley is a general contractor out of Murrieta, Ca.
Over the course of a year, we did quite alot of work for this guy. We spent our own money on material, gas, etc. The very first job we went too, the homeowner complained how Gil was un-reliable, dishonest and just all around a headache. It then turned into EVERY homeowner seemed to have a problem, from taking to long on the project, to asking for money, everyone seemed to have a problem. In Gils words, "with as much work as i do, someone is always going to be unhappy".
At first, he would pay, but then then the payments started getting few and far between, but as Gil put it, "he always kept us liquid". Well, liquid doesnt pay the bills. He would invite us to his home for bbqs, take us all to breakfast, he really did act like our friend, that was the worst. When we would ask about payments on a completed job, he would always seem to have an excuse as to why he couldent pay, such as, he was in the hospital, Home Depot owes him, a check bounced. He even gave the excuse that a llama attcked him and his balls were swollen. SERIOUSLY! He would always respond with how he a big job coming up that we would make money on. He always deflected from the topic of payment.
He would always say how he wanted to pay, but was just going through some hard times. We fell for it. We trusted him, and it was a mistake we will never make again. He now owes us $15,000 on 22 different jobs. 3 months of him saying he would pay, and we finally filed 22 complaints with the contractors board. He gave every excuse in the book to the contractors board, had his laywer send us letters demanding us to drop the complaints, and today i get a call from the CSLB that we need to take it to civil court because even though we have the invoices for all the jobs done, he is disputing them. Its frustrating.
All anyone needs to do is google Gil Finley reviews. ALL NEGATIVE. This is not right, we are not the 1st to get ripped off by Gil Finley, but i am going to do everything in my power to make sure we are the last. Contractors like him are a nightmare. People save their money to remodel their homes, and to have this guy walk in with the intention of stealing, is f*g bulls*. This guy needs to be held accountable for his actions. He cant even work within an hour of his own home because he has ripped off so many people. Its just not right.

On Jan. 11th at 9:45am Gils lawyer said that he would be in touch with 2 weeks to sit down and get this taken care of. NOTHING. Not a word from him. He 1st said after Thanksgiving, Then after Christmas, Then after New Years, Then again in Jan. Nothing but excuses. Gil has said that he never signed invoices, then it was that we didnt buy material, (which i have receipts for, with MY DEBIT #) Then it was because you did not have a true account balance. We gave you everything Gil. We have sent you all the invoices, FOR A 3RD time. You have done nothing but lie and make excuses. I have the paperwork to prove it.
I have spoke with at least 3 people just in the last week that you have ripped off. Who knows how many others are out there that you have scared to not say anything. How many people have you taken advantage of? How many families have you destraoyed and put on the street because you have left them broke and without a home to live in. How many times have you been to court? How many judgements do you have against you Gil? Well i know for a FACT that you have at least 30 just out of L.A. county alone. You have no remorse for what you have done not only to us, but to SO MANY OTHERS. IT IS NOT RIGHT. You are a selfish person that takes advantage of people to benefit yourself.
You have been doing this for years. You threaten people with slander lawsuits. You blame it on everyone else. You have said that Had I not gotten involved and wrote this rip off report, you would of paid.. BULLSHIT. You have done nothing but verbally insult me, make threats of lawsuits, and continue to lie. The truth is Gil, You are a narcissist and IT IS YOU THAT IS THE PROBLEM.
Ripping off the man I love is the worst mistake you have ever made. All I want is for you to pay what you know you owe. When i first wrote this, I did it to raise awarness. I gave you a chance to make this right. You have ignored every attempt that we have made to resolve this. NOTHING. You do not scare me. Your lawyer does not scare me. Your threats and insulting texts do not scare me. Because you might have scared others to not say anything about you. But where you made the mistake was underestimating a woman you know NOTHING about.

I just wanted to make a few things very, very clear. I have written this on my own accord. I am NOT the owner of the business. I am just a girlfriend that is frustrated after months of watching my bf try to resolve this but to no avil. I am sure that anyone who has had this happen too would feel frustrated also, especially when it happens to a loved one.
Since I first wrote this, I have been accused of doing this to "ruin his reputation". One woman could not ruin a persons reputation. How you treat people determines your reputation. How you do business determines your reputation. How you handle and respond to issues builds your reputation. If a business changes the name on a almost regular basis, that says alot. When a person is in court on a almost regular basis, that also says alot. So, no. this isnt about a reputation. This is about wanting someone to do the right thing. You want to change your reputation? Start now.
I believe that a mans word should hold water, i believe that a handshake should have integrity behind it. I believe that when you are in a service based industry, how you treat people should be #1. I believe that when a issues arises, it should be handled quickly and fairly to all parties involved. Honesty, Integrity and passion should run a business. NOT greed and decit.
I do not judge people based on the opinions of others, I base my opinion of someone on ones own actions, like the saying, "actions speak louder than words". We were warned. ALOT. A few times by family members. Had we listened, we wouldent be where we are today. And now I am being labeled as "un-ruley". There have been more than a few others that this has happened too. That is a fact. Some get intimidated by legal threats, some just get tired of the excuses, some just cut their losses and move on. It is not right to treat people that way. And if standing up for what is right defines me as unruley? That is ones opinion, and it is their right. Just like this in mine.
This issue has nothing to do with me, the real issue here is a contractor that owes money to someone that it is rightfully owed too for work that was done. When you are paid for work performed by someone else and you keep those funds to benefit yourself, it is not right. Take accountability and do what you know is right. When that is done, I will gladly come on here and tell people that a genuine effort was made to fix the problem. Because dragging this on, making excuses and avoiding the real problem, only proves my point.
We just want him to do the right thing.

The sad thing about this is that we just want him to do the right thing. Everyone messes up sometimes, but when someones response isnt accountability, but instead anger and defensiveness, thats what hurts. That is where the frustration comes in. It would just be great if this could get taken care, because at the end of the day, it is the fair and right thing to do
