In September 2005 I purchase a purebred White German Shepherd puppy from Buckstone Shepherds. Owners Cynthia and Clifford Philllips. All the forms filled in by Cynthia were on The Canadaian Kennel Club forms.

I had no reason to doubt that my puppy would be registered. Cynthia Phillips told me I would receive my registration papers within 3 months. I called her several times after that and she told me the CKC was behind in their paperwork.

I finally filed a complaint with CKC and they basically told me there was nothing they could do as she was in default with them. They sent her letters and she agreed to pay them up. They never called or followed up with Cynthia for payment and finally several months later they instructed me to contact the RCMP.

Well I did that and once again the located Cynthia, she had moved, all her dogs were taken away and some other breeders took them. I asked the RCMP to file charges against her under the Federal Pedigree Act.

The RCMP said they could not find her to serve papers or waited to long to do so and when they did find her, they gave the case back to CKC who once again just sent letters to no avail

The long and short of it, is that I still have not been able to register my pure bred White Shepherd and both the RCMP & CKC have be uncooperative and closed their files, as they say they cannot find Cynthia or Clifford Phillips.

Has anyone else had dealings with Buckstone Sheperds and have dogs that they have never been able to register??? Or has had dealings with Cynthia or Clifford Phillips.

Just as I assumed the breeder was in good standing with CKC as the breeder had CKC paperwork, I now know anyone can get CKC paperwork off the internet. So be careful when purchasing a so called predigreed pup. I do feel CKC should have some control on who has their paperwork, but it seems they do not regulate that.

I bought a puppy from Buckstone Shepherds too, Dec. 2005. I don't care about pedigrees, just wanted to comment.

I noticed their dogs were hungry! And thin, but not emaciated.

My puppy came with giardia, all the puppies had giardia. Having an un housetrained puppy with diarrhea was not fun! It's stressful enough just having a puppy!

Cynthia Phillips agreed to reimburse me for the $122 vet bill to treat the giardia, but she never did. I didn't pursue it because I think they were so short of money that their dogs were going hungry. Any extra money they got should be used for dog food.

My dog's had tendencies to diarrhea ever since. Maybe having giardia as such a young puppy damaged her intestines.

But, she is also very beautiful. Much more beautiful than the other white German shepherds I've seen. And a gutsy, determined, strong personality. I had a lot of difficulties with her as a puppy because she had tendencies to act aggressive. But I trained her well, and she's calmed down, and she's a sweet, well socialized dog. And I don't doubt she'd defend me if somebody attacked me.

Does it really matter so much if you can register the puppy? I can understand if you bought the puppy thinking maybe you'd show it. But they are also quality dogs!

I don't think it was right for them to be deceptive about registering the dog. But I feel sorry for her. It can be hard to make ends meet as a dog breeder.

I'd just like to second the report filed by Lena in Omemee, Ontario.

I purchased a puppy from Cynthia Phillips at Buckstone Shepherds in Spring of 2004. He was a wonderful dog personality-wise but had severe health problems which led me to return him to Buckstone in 2005. Per our contract, Cynthia was supposed to refund my purchase price of the puppy. She made a couple of small installment payments but then stopped contacting me and she still owes me $500. I had no reason initially to doubt her sincerity, but as time has passed I wonder if I wasn't the only one conned into purchasing a sick dog. Most importantly, I wish I knew how the pup I got was faring now, but she has been out of contact. Does anyone know where her dogs went?
