My Wife and I checked into the Durango Budget Inn for a three night stay in late September, 2008. Due to my wife's breathing problems, we requested and were given a ground floor room. However, that room was not habitable because of the malfunctioning heater. We were moved to another room that was actually two rooms with a total of three beds. There was a rack for hanging clothes but, it was useless because it was over a stacked microwave and refrigerator. There was no smoke alarm in the room, only a base for one on the ceiling.

In attempting to make a local phone call, the phone was not working and thus if a 911 call was necessary it could not be done from that room. In one of the rooms, there was a make-shift wiring job that I am sure would not be acceptable to the National Electric Code. There was what appeared to be a varmint hole in one of the rooms somewhat hidden behind a door. The ceiling vent fan in the bathroom looked like it was ready to fall down.

Finally, the night lock on the outside door was very difficult to work and in the case of an emergency could fail to allow for timely egress. Much of what I have described above is supported by photographic evidence. This place should be inspected by the Durango Building Inspection Office and probably by the Durango Fire Department.
