Complaint Review: Business Card Experts

Business Card Experts ripoff HOPKINS Minnesota

  • Reported By:
    NYC New York
  • Submitted:
    Thu, December 02, 2004
  • Updated:

Initially, Business Card Experts seemed very professional. The "extensive hands-on training" they promised consisted of my designated support person reading to me over the phone, word for word, the text of the training manual which they sent me. That is just wrong, I plunked down about $20,000 on this!!!!!

The training sucked, the follow-up support was piss poor. I spent another $3,000 installing fax and phone lines, and paying for long distance calls. Not to mention the considerable time I spent making phone calls.
My rep Molly lied to me!

My support person, Mary, told me, after my "training", to email her if I needed any support. Gradually, responses to emails were responded to 2 3 days later!!! I thought that I would be nurtured and helped to learn this new business. The terse one-line responses to my requests for information and encouragement didn't meet my expectations of the term "unlimited ongoing support". This was the worst mistake I ever made, and I would discourage anyone from getting involved with this group.

Buyers were not interested, It's like They get some graphic designer to produce the sort of card that won't help the business. It ends up being a very expensive & useless for a small business. A business card is too much $ for a small company. The cards were so-so , they looked and felt cheaply made

I was told by that I could make about $150,000 a year, working full time. I tell you right now, that is NOT possible. I made about $10

Call their # (952) 844-0099, ask for the CEO Scott Boardmanor the President of the company, who also happens to be the owner Stewart Grandpre.

If you call (952) 844-0099 and ask for their web address, you will be told that they have to get your # and have someone call you back. They are worried to be caught in their scam!

Thank you ripoffreport for you site. I was thinking about getting involved in the business and now because of the information here I am going to take a much longer look at this opportunity. As for the posting from the lawyer-this is America-if someone had a bad opportunity with this company it is their right to post their experience for others. The above posts do not sound made up or misleading, but true experiences from people who have worked with this company. It is wrong for you to threaten people into silence and it is totally legal to post true experiences. I was actually very turned off to BCE more than before when I read your post!

Has anyone complaining about Bussiness Card Experts (BCE) contacteed the Minnesota Better Business Bureau (BBB). I have had great success with the Wisonsin Better Business Bureau in the past with other matters. I pulled up the report for Bussiness Card Experts. The BBB is giving them a good report.

I'm considering going into bussiness with BCE after an extensive research into the company.

I also worked with Business Card Experts, and had more of the same problems. First of all the price of the cards was no where near what I was told they were going to be. I was not really saving my clients any money at all, and the shipping was killing me. I also spoke to Molly, although I cannot remember her last name right now, but I was quote more or less the same numbers.
After putting in about $21,000 and 4 months of doing my due diligence, seems I was still taken., They ran a good scam on me. Gave me other people using their system to call. Well I did, and they were doing well, had many happy clients. I know come to find out that these people were set up to sell me. That is sad.
I tried to work my business, but was not possible. Bad product, expensive items, and basically lack of response ruined me. Thanks for nothing Business Card Experts. You ruined my life, killed my bank accountbasically took my money and ran. That is not right. Bottom feeders like this should rot in HELL. It's sad they steal $ off of people just trying to make it in this business.
I call in now and cannot get Molly at ext 101 only the operator or general voicemailwhat happened./ they took everyone's money and ran!

I've been to Minneapolis, I realized they were still selling me the same old line

#17UPDATE EX-employee responds

Mon, December 13, 2004

I went to Minneapolis about three months ago to get straight with the business. They had me walking out the door feeling great about everything. it wasn't until later that I realized they were still selling me the same old line. No more than a week later support completely dried up. I never was able to speak with Mary again. I have spent good money after bad on this business and I have yet to see any kind of profit. I'm not naive like an earlier poster, I assumed that their large clients they tout were already spoken for but I assumed I could find some of my own. Now with the way you run this business I doubt they even have those large clients.

Freelancers Beware Post Is Inaccurate and False

#17Consumer Comment

Fri, December 10, 2004

My name is Michelle Nelson I am a graphic designer who posted a complaint about another printing company, the complaint listed above pertaining to unpaid invoices was actually taken from a compliant I originally posted against another company on this site. The invoice totals are actually the amount due to me from this other company. The complaint posted above is inaccurate and false, the company whom I dealt with was not Business Card Experts (BCE), Hopkins, MN it was a company located in Austin Texas. I do apologize for the misunderstanding and confusion with this posting and am currently in the process to have it removed.

I have been a Dealer for Business Card Experts for over a year now. I have had very good success with the business and feel getting into this business is one of the best decisions I have made. Since becoming a dealer I have been able to sign up approximately 550 businesses that purchase cards and many of theses customers have already placed multiple orders for more cards. My experience with everyone at Business Card Experts has been positive, I have had good feedback and support growing the business and I personally feel the training was very helpful, in fact Business Card Experts helped me sign a chain of auto stores during my first month. I have been in contact with other dealers over the past year and found they enjoy the business as well and are doing very well. The only thing I can suggest is go up for training in Minneapolis, it really help open my eyes to the business, and has helped me grow the business much more quickly. I have found this to be a great business and having lots of success.

freelancers beware do not to work with them because you will not get paid!

I am a freelance Graphic designer and unfortunately decided to start doing business with BCE that produce and sell business cards. After several months of stressful work (my on the side job) and after trudging my way throuth theinterview process which icluded my mrembership fee. I started to get frustrated that I was not being paid in a timely or complete manner.

I started to worry that I would never be paid in full. I have been working with BCE since May 14th, 2002 and have never had any of my invoices paid in full. I feel that I have been very patient and cooperative, and have taken into consideration your circumstances and situations.

I have been paid $510.00 out of $1162.40 in charges. I feel that any business would not continue producing work for a customer with this kind of track record. I am going to require that the latest invoice of $541.96 be brought up to date before these new projects will be started.

All in all I want everyone to know that when your ordering cards from this company there is some poor designer being ripped off behind it all that they they are pocketing the design set up fee.

I also want all freelancers to beware not to work with them because you will not get paid! If you like their prices I know where they order the cards and can get you the same rate!!

It all started with just an idea In April of 2001, that was the first time they decided to rip people off, take their hard earned money.I sent $19,500 dollars or the franchise, some cheap photo copied training materials, then an additional $3000 for the corp software. My sales guy Burton said this territory was mine, no other BCE would be allowed in this area. The advertise there is only 150 franchises, but they say they have been in business since 2001. Burton said they are allowing 10 new franchises a month, math time 36 months x 10/month ==??? Come on burton, do the math before you open your lying mouth. Burton forgot to tel me that all the big accounts they tout about are already assigned to other members. Gotta say they sure know how to print,,,the brochure really is sharp.. I need that money back, I took a loan to start this business, and need it back.

go to work for someone else IN THAT LINE OF WORK BEFORE you invest your hard earned money

#17Consumer Suggestion

Thu, December 02, 2004

Here's another post about a franchise. Sorry to hear about the way things worked out. People, if you are planning to get into a particular line of work, go to work for someone else IN THAT LINE OF WORK BEFORE you invest your hard earned money in a business. Alot of them a set to fail even before the doors are open. You'll get paid to work for that person and learn the business FOR FREE. IF, you deceide that it is something you like, which many don't and can make money at it, then go ahead and open your own business. I've seen; sandwich places, mail places, oil places, frame places, jewelry repair places, rug, auto, ding and windshield, all bit the dust. They are all somewhat simple to master, what do you need to pay some high fee to open up your own shop for. They don't guarantee your business will last. What do you need them for? Not, you could have gone to work for Kinko's and learned a whole lot more or maybe some small print shop for a short period of time. Taken that $20,000 and put it to better use. Couple of years ago I saw the same Mail Box Etc. get sold 3 times, before it finally went under.
