Complaint Review: Business Yellow Pages

Beware of the Business Yellow Pages misleading telemarketing tactics.  They call and state, "we have your listing as XXX" and ask if it's correct.  They then read off the address, telephone and fax numbers, and ask if they have those correct.  They then ask if they can send an invoice, and if the person they are speaking to is authorized to receive an invoice.  All of this is recorded.

NEVER do they ask if the individual/company is interested in advertising with them.  They also never ask if the person they are talking to is authorized to comit to advertising with them.  They only ask if they can send an invoice. 

We receive yellow page "invoices" every week, and the fine print reads, "if you'd like to advertise with our publication please fill out the paperwork and return with your payment". 

This is all that our assistant thought she was agreeing to.  She never thought she was signing our company up for advertising!

We now receive several threatening collection calls a day.  They are insisting we owe them $649.99.  They are very happy to play the voice recording, where they think they've received authorization for purchasing the advertising.  But never, during the recording, do they ask if we would like to advertise with them, or if the person they are speaking to is authorized to comit to such advertising.

I have filed a complaint with the Broward County Better Business Bureau and with Pam Bondi, the Attorney General for the State of Florida.  Hopefully they can put a stop to the misleading telemarketing tactics the Business Yellow Pages employ.
