I ordered  a Mintstudio speaker system from BUY.COM @ $122.37 + $10.10 S&H.  The website does not give you an order number or receipt at time of order.  It is emailed to you.  I noticed a price discrepancy on my emailed receipt: $134.73 + $10.10 S&H -- about a $12 discrepancy.

I immediately went back to double-check the online price.  It said $122.37 + S&H. I contacted customer service via online chat. I questioned the price I was charged. The agent said "It appears that [the price] went up...  The prices may change without prior notice even when in the cart" (!!!)

I canceled the order.  Needless to say, this is simply a fraudulent pricing scheme.

The consumer cannot rely on the posted price, and is not notified that the price being charged is different from the price when the order was placed.  You will have to notice the discrepancy yourself when you get the emailed receipt (if you look at it). Or, you may notice the price discrepancy when you get your credit card bill.  Or, more likely, you will not notice-- because you don't remember the price that you originally ordered at, and you are relying on the veracity of the receipt that was emailed to you.  The receipt should match up exactly with the order you placed.  Anything else is simply FRAUD, and this practice is clearly illegal.
