On May 17,200 at Saturn of carbondale,Il. I saw a 1990 chevy lumina that I liked. After the test drive the car seemed fine. I traded a 1987 Honda accord they gave me $1500 for it and I gave them $1995.Not counting tax etc.that amounted to $3500. I was told it had gone through a 20 point inspection and it was fine. I had bought a 1999 camry the year before from them ,so I trusted them. After 5 days the car started cutting out. I took it to a mechanic who told me it needed more work than it was worth.I took it back to the dealer on May 23.They told me it had an as is warranty and they would do me a favor by letting me trade it in on an other vehicle. The only one in my price range was a 1995 olds cutlass they wanted $6000 for. They would only give me $2100 in trade for a car I gave $3500 six days before take it or leave it. The Il. Atty Generals office, and B.B.B. could not help me because of the as is warranty.

My mechanics at the Auto Shop in Carbondale warned me off of the Saturn dealership when I said I might be replacing my old vehicle. Apparently they've found sawdust in the engine of cars from Saturn.

Sorry to say it but unless you've got a warranty on the vehicle that will cover any problems that come up you should always have a used car inspected by a mechanic. Unless the dealership will sign a contract that puts their money where their mouth is, don't just trust their word because there's too much money it in for them.

If you want to buy a used vehicle, don't pick Saturn. The Honda dealership has always done pretty well for me (they're the only local dealership mechanics I actually trust but I own a Subaru). The sales manager of the Nissan dealership is also a very nice guy, so there's another place to try.
