I just discovered this website and wanted to warn used-car buyers to be careful about a warranty company called C.A.R.S.-Protection-Plus recommended by the dealer. I bought a used vehicle that I needed right away while home from overseas [APO / FPO address] plus a ninety-day C.A.R.S. warranty on the power train for $99.  While on a toll highway 2 days after purchase, at 9am on a Sunday morning the timing gear broke. This required a state-police approved towing company to get me off the highway at a another charge of $99 which included the tow company's franchise fee for operating on a toll road.
I was frantic because my flight back overseas was in two days. The garage that handled my car was very nice and honest -- got me a used part on Monday morn instead of a new one that would have taken three days to arrive -- but the additional repair cost to me was another $432. Final total $630 on top of the car price.
C.A.R.S. refused to reimburse me because I had not gone onto its website on Sunday morning -- I ask you how could I have done that from the middle of nowhere -- and asked for authorization in advance per the fine print.
I wrote a letter asking for a waiver, attaching the State Police report, the tow company report, the detailed mechanics report, and the final bill pointing out it was a Sunday morning, and I had to fly out Tuesday noting my military status.
C.A.R.S was within narrow legal rights to deny the claim but I feel strongly that they should have waived the internet report and paid up. The documenation was honest, complete, and undeniable.
I later investigated this company and learned that it has a bad reputation. Anyone else share this view?

I have dealt with this company and they just do not want to pay any claims. This warranty company is not worth the paper it is written on. I am also writing a letter to my states banking and insurance commission to complain about this company and hope they ban them from doing business in my state.

All extended warranty plans, including the legitimate ones will not pay for any repair that is not pre-approved. Full stop, no negotiation, done.

Did you tell the repair shop you were on this warranty? Virtually any Advisor at these places knows that rule. I wounder why you weren't warned? Hmmm makes you wonder.

It could be that all these warranty companies are a pain to deal with and take so much unpaid time the repair shops wont deal with them so you have to.
