Here's a lesson in Consignment!

We had several antique Victorian pieces to sell and thought we'd be best served to put them in an auction. We selected Clarke Auction Gallery in Larchmont, NY, because they were willing to come out and inspect the furniture and pick it up, if they thought it would sell, free of charge.

Well, it is still true that you get nothing for nothing! Diana and Andi were overly personable and took their time telling us that everything but one set wasn't worth their effort. But the one 3-pc set they did take, they estimated would go for about $600 - $900.

We knew their auction wasn't 'live' in person, it was supposed to be 'live' online. We expected to see our furniture listed in their April 1st online catalog, but it wasn't there. How surprised were we to learn that it sold! For $400 total. No way to know who actually bought but we do have our suspicions. Minus their fee, we could have done better having a yard sale. And 'whoever' bought it will do a lot better on the resale.

BEWARE. Unless you're going to physically visit the place you consign your property, you have no idea if it was sold and how much you should really be getting.
