I reserved and pre-paid in full, a guaranteed room on-line with 1 queen bed and 1 double bed, with a pet for which I obtained prior permission from Cascades per their policy and the fee was included in the $1,332 I paid up front for 4 nights.

When we got there they said the on line booking was wrong and told me there was another $413 due for the room. I protested and they can said I can leave with no refund - or take the room. After a 7 hour drive on a major holiday when everything else was booked they had me.

They put us in a room with smaller bedding than guaranteed with no outside access for our dog as was guaranteed, due to a 10 foot high pile of snow against the sliding doors melting into the room. I asked for another room and was told take it or leave it with no refund by a very nasty manager. She threw towels all over the soaking wet carpet. The room smelled like mold. The towels quickly soaked.

The next night, the manager knocked on my door and said her system was wrong again, and it wasn't $413 that was owed, but $663, so she is charging my amex another $250. I told her not to. I gave them a hand written letter they are not to charge my card anything. They still did.

I got home and a week later, I received a receipt for another $150 they charged me for the wet towels they threw on the leaking floor. I called and said can we work this out, you know these charges are wrong, and you won't get away with it wth me, that said no, do what you have to do and hung up.

I had to cancel my amex before they charged anymore.

Now, after I have filed various complaints, instead of trying to work things out the indian poor-english speaking owner, Pia Malkani, and her cohort manager Amy Jones, have accused me of blackmail, and are making up lies that can easily be disproven with paperwork and photos. We are heading to court. Like I have nothing better to do? They just keep fanning the flames. A nice way to treat your guests!

I swear to all these facts, and have gone through a lot of trouble to fight for my money back and for the rude way in which we were treated and our family vacation was ruined.

The Rutland Herald has published this story.

I travel a great deal and have NEVER had a complaint and have NEVER had any host treat me anything like this in any aspect. You are prey when you stay at the Cascades Lodge. The owner is a vulture.
