Complaint Review: Cadillac Inc.

Cadillac Inc. Cadillac DTS, Recall for Wiper fluid heater. Cadillacs recall on this part is to remove it and pay me $100.00. This is a luxury feature on a car costing nearly $60,000 and they want to pay $100.00! Nationwide

I am miffed that Cadillac's solution to a failing board on the windshield washer fluid heater is to remove it and pay me $100.00.  This car was almost $60,000 and this is a part of the luxury of the car.

Last week when I took my car in for another service issue they performed the recall and informed me that they had removed the function and the parts because there was a risk of fire.  luckily I will get $100.00 check in the mail.  I think this is a ripoff and they should fix the part that was a feature of the car.

Hopefully others feel the same way and will file a claim for this rip-off.

I have not signed any releases or paperwork.  The dealer is doing this for me.

When I complained to the Service writer, she shrugged her shoulders like there was nothing she could do about it.  She probably can't do anything but it stinks.

I am on the fence here regarding whether this was complaint worthy, but it probably is not worth making a big deal over. Adolph has a good point. I mean imagine if runaway acceleration caused you to kill a family, and you were charged with manslaughter and/or reckless endangerment and locked up when it was actually due to neglect of the manufacturer.

When you get down to it..you can't really be surprised with Cadillac having recalls and electrical issues..just do an internet search..endless results.

Or..since our Gub'ment decided to bail out a failing company "GM", and become it's biggest shareholder, perhaps you can ask Obama if he can figure out a way to heat up the windshield washer fluid without it creating a fire hazard.

I am trying to put myself in your shoes but it is not easy as I do not live in a climate that would require heating washer fluid. Since you state they did not give you a choice you have a leg to stand on. Either tell them when the check arrives you are sending it back with a note stating they can shove it up where the sun don't shine, or have a nice dinner with it and as Adolph stated buy an ample supply of washer fluid that contains antifreeze.

The latter is what happened

They fixed it while in for service and the check is on the way.  They didn't ask me.

.the fact a standard feature in a $60K car was withdrawn post-purchase.  If there really existed a chance of fire, that wasnt exactly a surreptitious act on the part of the dealership. I do know for a fact (at least 15 years ago) consistant pressure was put on dealers to properly execute any campaigns, particularly of a safety nature.

.

Theres a plethora of potential electrical, mechanical, steering, braking,

related  problems and failures  facing todays motorists. It would seem that loss of heat in the windshield washer heater system might not be very high on this list.

.

Were on the same page, I guess. I particularly can relate to your alluding to all these stupid useless bells and whistles (on a luxury car). It would seem that Toyota is doing even less to address some of their recent problems. I think I could live without heat in my washer system with considerably less worry than run away acceleration and brakes that allegedly dont work.

Particularly in view of the fact the FED now has the number of deaths from the foregoing at 89.

Basically you are missing the point of the complaint. If you are willing and able to pay the price for a luxury car that has all these stupid useless bells and whistles...you at least expect them to work.

However this customer apparently excepted the 100 bucks so in hindsight I do not understand the complaint. I am curious however what they would have done if the customer refused the 100 and insisted on the washer fluid heater to work, or take the piece of sh*t back.

Now if they did not give the customer a choice and simply called to tell them they disconnected the feature and a 100 dollar check is on the way..then there is a legitimate reason to complaint, as petty as an issue this may seem to most people.

Heck most people in America today probably can't afford to change the wiper blades or add fluid, much less worry about a heater for it.

A simple solution...(no pun intended).....

So youre going to receive $1C for the windshield washer heater board, huh? With windshield washer fluid selling for about $2.00 or less a jug, that $100. would buy you 50 gallons of washer fluid. Im assuming the purpose of a washer fluid heater might be to avoid freezing? (Unless youre in

Florida or similar) With 50 gallons of solution, thats a lifetime of no frozen washer fluid, eh? Maybe Im missing something here. Heated seats, mirrors, steering wheels, rear window resistance heating, briefly available  heated windshields years ago, but washer fluid? Surely I AM missing SOMETHING.

Did they give you another option?

I only ask because I am curious what they would have done if you told them you will not accept 100 bucks and you want the car with the luxury equipment to be functional, or take the d**n car back.

Is this car still under warranty? Cadillacs are notorious for recalls and electronic issues, I hope others learn from this report. Of course the service writer can not do anything, this is an issue with the manufacturer, and seems a safety issue as well..car catching fire is not good.
