Cal Cars Had no title, means NO TAG, took back the car, and I still don't have anything to show for it! Tulsa Oklahoma
I have read the other reports left from people who have purchased from Calcars and I would just like to see if anyone(who posted a rebuttal) can tell me why I GOT SCREWED by a company who is so good to do business with?
I am a long time, good standing customer. (at least I was until this incident!)I purchased my first car from Calcars in December of 2002.
I had to wait nearly 4 months to get tag on my first vehicle so that I could be legal. I chalked it up to my misfortune and didn't raise a brow at them. The car that I purchased was a mini van, it broke down numerous times, having to repair it too many times to count. It finally sputtered and died in the middle of the road. ( I am not blaming them at this point, just adding to other peoples lemon statements, which is a fact!!)It would have cost more to repair than it was worth, so having it towed away was my only option, and paying off the remaining balance.
By this time, I had another one of their auction bought pieces of crap that I was paying 5 grand for, and was tickled to have it so I could take my kids to school, and work overtime to pay for it! Once the van broke down, I returned to purchase my 3rd and most definately FINAL car from them.
I bought a 1996 Ford Taurus the first part of November of 2005. I paid $90 a week until the 16 of December when I paid $200.00 to finish out the down payment ( might not sound like a lot to some, but to me, right before christmas it was alot). I turned over my insurance THREE DAYS after purchasing this car, and waited for my tag (which I had already paid for, yet they have to get and send to you!)
Thirty days past and no tag! forty, fifty days still NO TAG!I was calling them left and right, day after day, wanting to know where my tag was. I went into the car lot to make my payment the Friday of New Years weekend, and asked the guy ( I won't use names, although I definately know all of them) where my tag was. He said the same thing I had heard for over two months "FedEx has shown up yet!" I told him that I couldn't drive the car without a tag. He told me to park it!So now I am paying for a car that I can't drive. He told me "you still have to make your payment". Okay, this went on a long time. I heard comments about how they had other people waiting on tags also. (So you see, it wasn't just my bad luck TWICE, it was happening to other people as well) I finally had enough of it, now knowing that I wasn't going to get my tag because of a title problem ( that they never admitted to until my husband went in, they told me it was in Muskogee, then in Midwest city and that it was suppose to be on the truck, so being the idiot that I am, I believed them!)
Finally last Wednesday I seen a vehicle that I would have considered trading for. ( They are closed on Wednesday's, but trading in was an option they gave me at one point) It was a Kia Sportage (1995). I talked to the manager on Thursday about it, he told me that I would have to put another 300 down to get that. He then pointed out the oldest, ugliest car on the lot and told me it was a good car, that I should drive it.
I was finished with them!
I sent my husband down to deal with it.They had him test drive a couple of cars ( which I could have picked up at an auction for 300 bucks) then he test drove the Kia. After he drove it and told the manager that we would pay the $300 difference, the price shot up to $600. HE was irritated and had to return to work, so left.
Friday he went to make the payment. They told him he could get the Kia ( for nothing down now)but would have to wait until Monday because they couldn't do the paperwork on Friday. My husband handed them the keys to my car, and told them to apply the balance to the other car we have. They looked shocked! They told him that would have to be done on Monday, to come back and sign the papers, because no one could do anything on Friday.
It is now a week later and I still don't have the money I paid on the Taurus applied to my account for the other car. SO ANYONE OUT THERE WANNA TELL ME WHY I AM GETTING SCREWED???During all of this I called Muskogee, I called Midwest City, I even called the supposed home office in Rockford ILL ( which by the way I had to look up on the internet because none of those offices would give it to me, it is against company policy) everyone that I talked to told me that they would call me back. How many calls do you think they returned? ZERO!!!!!!!! I never heard back from anyone! I am in the process of retaining a lawyer, I am sick and tired of corporations sticking it to the little guy!
If it isn't bad enough that they take advantage of those of us who can't get financed anywhere else, then to pull something like this and act like it doesn't matter!
I know alot of you are thinking why did I buy the second car, let alone the third if they are so bad, right? I will tell you. I have three kids, I work full time, I go to school full time. I needed a car, I knew I could get one from them. My credit sucks, and I didn't have the time to shop around. My cars always broke down when I had no money, and no time. THat is the reason I went back to them. Right now my husband and I are sharing a car and will refuse to EVER do business with them again. I am paying cash for the next purchase I make!
Oh and to top it off, the Taurus has a horrible leak and the transmission slips. I never was able to get it above 50 miles an hour, but guess where it is sitting at this moment? You guessed it, it is on the lot, back up for sell to the next unsuspecting desperate sap! I haven't received any compensation from my nightmare and they are ready to pass it on to someone else!
BUYER BEWARE!!!!!
Calcars is a larger dealership than they want to let on. They don't want their customers to have the home office number for good reason. Do your research, you can find it via the internet, just make sure that you don't get the financing department!

You can go into any TAG AGENCY in OK [I used to live in OKC] and get a tag, or find out if there is a problem.
All you need is your sales contract and insurance on the vehicle.
You can also file a complaint against a dealer at ANY Tag Agency, AND you can view a copy of the dealers license and get all busines info and bond info.
You can file a claim against the dealers bond for any losses you have incurred.
Good luck.
