Beware of California cycles they will do anything to keep the deposit.  My sixteen year old son rented from them and did not tell him the rules.  They had him sign a lengthy rental agreement that of course a 16 year old would not read.  He had only had the scooter for 10 minutes and someone from one of the other store locations waved him and his friend down and told them they had to return the scooter because they had went on the shoulder of the road to get to a side road, and they said this was considered reckless driving.   The guy cussed at them and told them lost their 100 dollar deposit for the reckless driving.  He then turned around and let the "reckless 16 year old  driver" rent the scooter again, but had my son put down another 100 dollar deposit.  I called and the owner of the shop is very rude and unprofessional.  She would not give the deposit back.  From what I have read since this has happened to my son they will do anything to keep the 100 deposit.  I would never advise anyone to rent from them.

I weep for the future of America.

First off, your kid didn't read what he was signing. Dumb, to say the least. That aside, he DID engage in illegal driving. You admitted it! Quit trying to defend his stupid actions. Wreckless or illegal driving means you lose your deposit; even if there's no ticket or wreck. It's in the contract, fool. Maybe you should try parenting for five minutes and teach him a thing or two about contract law.
