Typical faculty members used at California Southern University

Dr. Bob Weathers - estemed faculty memeber at the university

California Department of Consumer Affairs Board of Psychology accepted the surrender of Robert Satnley Weathers, Ph.D.'s license to practice psychology.

According to the boards accusations and stippulated surrender of license and order, Weathers engaged in a sexual realtionship with his patient.

Robert Weathers was also romanticly involved with a graduate studnt while he was a professor at Pepperdine University and lost his professorship and tenure.

Once I realized this man was part of the faculty, I dropped out of the Psychology program,. I decided I would switch to criminal justice.

I looked up another esteemed faculty member and saw Former Police Chief Tommy Tunnson listed, he is a fired Police Chief from the city of Arvin...

Why would the university hire people  like this?

If you want to go to a university that hires people that loose their license, because they sleep with their patients and Police Chiefs that are fired, this is the university for you.

Diploma mills can't aford to hire good people so this is what you get.  I was told by my counselor that they were WASC accredited, but I found out when I started they weren't.

Do your home work before applying to the wrong school.  Research the faculty and accreditation.

The report expresses concern that Dr Weathers surrendured his license to practice psychology in 2010 due to an inappropriate sexual relationship with a patient.  That claim is only partially true.  According to the Dept of Consumer Affairs, however, Dr Weathers DID NOT engage in sexual activity during the time she was his patient.  It expressly states this occured after her treatment had concluded.  The issue at hand was the length of time after it happened (CA has a window of 2 years).  A year after treating the patient, Dr Weathers relocated to New Hampshire.  A sexual relationship with his former patient began after that, and they eventually married.  The report with Consumer Affiars in CA was not filed until after they later divorced, and Dr Weathers relocated to CA.  He had no longer been practicing psycology at the time he surrendered his license (many in the teaching profesion no longer have licenses to practice in their respective states).

Regarding concern that Dr Weathers' relationship with a student while at Pepperdine, this occured prior to 2001.  He thereafter went to teach at California State University, San Bernardino, and Loma Linda University.  It would seem odd to take issue with his involvement at CalSouthen, but not have a problem with his involvement at Cal State San Bernardino or Loma Linday University.

Regarding Tommy Tunson, the facts claimed are likewise in error.  The local news carried numerous stories citing Tunson as having been wrongfully terminated.  In fact, a wrongful termination lawsuit was filed by Tunson.  The matter was settled out of court when he was reinstated as an employee of the city, and afterwards allowed to retire in good standing.

Lastly is the issue of accredidation.  Again, the claimant is in error.  CalSouthern is nationally accredited by the DETC, and is currently a candidate for regional accredidation by WASC.  CalSouthern makes no secret about this.  This information is readily available on their website, and a call to CalSouthern's admissions office conirms it.  I suspect the claimant misunderstood what he was told about WASC accreditation.  However, since CalSouthern is likely to be WASC accredited by the time the claimant graduates, this concern might be a nonissue.
