CAMCO (Capital Acquisitions & Management Company) SCAM - trying to collect on old charged off or completely "imaginary" debt! Rockford Illinois .....

I received a collection letter in the mail from CAMCO stating that they purchased a Citibank account formerly held by some other company I had never heard of, and that a ridiculous amount was owed on this delinquent credit card account.

I don't remember ever having a credit card with Citibank, and if I did, it would have been much more than 10 years ago, plus, the amount they claimed I owed was far more than any credit line I have ever received in my lifetime!

I admit my credit history has been negligent in the past, to say the least, which is why I have steered clear of obtaining credit cards for more than 10+ years, and just in the last year have been obtaining credit with partially secured cards to slowly re-establish more responsible credit worthiness.

Initially I was worried that I had some outstanding debt I was not aware of -- or even worse: someone might have stolen my identity info and was incurring debt in my name -- but then I got hold of myself, started thinking rationally and going through past records and KNEW this was a load of crap!

I immediately wrote a letter to this company telling them that this is invalid, perhaps even fraudulent and I don't owe them anything and to NOT contact me ever again! However, I still had some lingering doubts, so I decided to look up CAMCO on the Internet, just to see what I could find.

I came across this website and am very glad I did! While I did not send this company any money, so did not technically get "ripped off" -- had I not found this website and info on this company, and had they pursued me further, I MIGHT have eventually considered some sort of agreement to clear up this "alleged" bad debt!

So I wanted to THANK YOU for providing this type of information and to warn others in a similar situation to really check things out before just taking things on face value or being intimidated into paying these types of companies for bogus or written-off debts! I appreciate your allowing me to share my experience.
