Complaint Review: CAMCO Capital Acquisitions

For several months I have been subjected to the continued abusive phone calls from Capital Acquisitions, otherwise known as CAMCO. To date, 3 of their debt collection representatives have tried to convince me that I owe them over $10,000.00 on a debt incurred in 1987, that was legally absolved in 1992 through our lawyer in Maryland.

Each of the representatives attempted to collect monies through various measures. The first representative sent a letter that stated nothing more than an account number and a dollar amount. The second representative was otherwise courteous, but informed me that his company had made an inquiry on my credit report, all for the purpose of raising a red flag on any possible credit applications that I might apply for.

The third representative, Ruth, who called this evening was the rudest individual I have dealt with from any company.

This is a copy of the complaint I filed with the Federal Trade Commission:

Ruth told me I owed CAMCO 10,000.00 for a debt from 1987. I told her it was settled in court in 1992. She said "your not going to pay this debt?" I said NO. She said fine, I'll call you everyday then. I told her not to call anymore since they don't have a legitimate debt. She said "I'll fu**ing call you everyday at this time!" I hung up on her. This is the rudest representative of this company so far and the harassment is becoming more than a nuisance.

I am tired of this company using tactics like this on myself and my family members that happen to answer the phone. And from my research, I am not the only one that has been putting up with this harassment. The following link contains well over 300 complaints regarding this company and their practices:

My only recourse is to continue emailing complaints to everyone concerned, the State of California (my residence) and the State of Illinois (CAMCO headquarter location) and the FTC. Additionally, I am in the process of compiling an email list of all Letter to the Editor sections for each online Newspaper (by city/State). My intentions are to provide this company with the visibility it deserves for its unfair and threatening practices on the general public.

If someone could offer some viable advice on how to legally handle this company, it would be greatly appreciated.
