I am writing to you out of frustration and as a last resort. i am receiving daily harassing phone calls from a nate walsh who works at camco, a credit collection agency located in Rockford Il.. first point of issue is that he is attempting to collect a debt which was paid in full 17 years ago. i have no personal records of this debt or its payment, nor does the bank of boston (where the account initiated). in other words, i have no proof of payment, nor can i obtain proof. the important fact is that this debt was fully addressed 17 years past.

i mean to tell you that his calls are harassing, abusive, and threatening. further, he has pledged to call me everyday until i relent and send them $50. if i owed the money, i would have paid the debt long ago, however, i don't owe the money and i am not going to send them even a penny. i am plain sick and tired of this man and his company calling my home with their abuse. my wife is also tired of him calling.

This so called "EX employee" is telling people that even though a debt was settled seventeen years ago, if you have no proof you paid you're better off paying SCUMCO again ? Nice try honey, I've seen you give this advice in a few rebuttals now.Is management coming down on you? Not meeting your quotas?

I've gone through this same crappola with these dopes that everybody on this site reports about so telling my story is redundant. The best advice I've seen and I hope people just remember this:

IF THIS COMPANY CONTACTS YOU IT MEANS LEGALLY YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY THE DEBT.They buy up old accounts that THE ORIGINAL company wants no part of anymore. They are Bottom feeders, losers
FIGHT THEM !!!

It is illegal for any one to call the state of mass everyday

Here's some good advice for anyone living in the state of Massachusetts. First of all Doc, it is illegal to call anyone in the state of massachusetts everyday. By law they can only contact you to collect a debt once a week. It is also illegal to discuss your debt with any third party, in Massachusetts a spouse is a third party. Unless you sent them something in writing stating that you gave them permission to speak to your wife, then "Nate" has broken two laws. What you can do is contact your attorney general and file a complaint. Legally you can sue CAMCO and "Nate" for violating the FDCPA. Law one; contacting you daily, Law two; discussing your personal business with a third party, your wife. I hope this little bit of info helps you.

PS: It is the same CAMCO that is hiring. They are always hiring. They have an enormous turnover rate. They are always losing people (firing or quiting) due to unethical business practices towards employees.

PSS: 90% of the accounts that firms like this are trying to collect on are valid debts. Statute of limitations does not mean that you cannot be contacted about a debt. It just means that the company trying to collect cannot sue you. If that company cannot collect on the debt, it does get sold to another agency. So regardless of a cease and desist letter, you will unfortunately be contacted again by a different company at a later time. It is a vicious cycle, but very legal. Unfortunately the 10% of consumers that were reported wrongfully and have already paid the debt are in a bad position. Unless you can provide proof it was paid. The 90% that have valid debts. The best thing to do is settle with these firms and make sure you receive a letter of release stating that the account was paid. Make sure you file these letters for life. Treat them like you would a birth certificate. That way if by some mistake you are contacted again you have proof of account paid in full. Then you can send them a copy of that and they can no longer contact you.

CAMCO doesn't even have a website

Look Again ...The CAMCO URL ends in '.NET' not '.COM'. The job listing is at the careerbuilder website. Check it out, it's pretty amusing.

BTW, CAMCO doesn't even have a website. Try going to www.camcoinc.net. Nothing.

I checked the site that was recommended to be flooded with resumes as "Camco is hiring"... please go to www.camcoinc.com and look before you do...IT'S NOT THAT CAMCO!! The site that is soliciting resumes seems to be a property management company that has unfortunately named itself similarly to our favorite CAMCO.

CAMCO Is Hiring !!! Just In Time For the Holidays

They must be looking for help for Nate.

Just go to www.careerbuilder.com and do a search on CAMCO. They are taking resumes at:

recruiting@camcoinc.net

The hiring manager is Nancy Vollmer. I'm sure she'd like to hear from all satisifed CAMCO clients and would certainly welcome references for worthy candidates (please remember that Charles Manson is serving a LIFE sentence and is unavailable).

This Debt is past Statute of Limitations

#7Consumer Suggestion

Sat, November 29, 2003

If you cannot prove that you paid the debt from 17 years ago (and who keeps records for that long), then CAMCO has no case because it is past the Statute of limitations. Since the alleged debt is past the statute of limitations, it is a debt that is legally unenforceable. If you get into the trap of trying to not prove it is yours and you can't, they will just keep harrassing you further.

You can send them a letter stating it is beyond the statute of limitations for your state and that they are not to call you or contact you in any way.

CAMCO is a criminal outfit. They buy up old, outdated credit reports and attempt to collect on debts that are no longer valid. Some of these debts have been discharged through bankruptcy but that does not stop CAMCO.

File a report with your state AG (are they licensed in your state), the FTC, the BBB, the Banking Commission and anyone else that you can think of.

Send copies of all correspondence certified mail, return reciept requested, and also make sure that you send copies of all complaints that you made with these agencies along with your statute of limitations letter to CAMCO in Rockford, Illinois.

Don't send them one penny. If they offer you a settlement, and you pay, they will merely then turn around and sell the remainder to another collection agency.

Once you send them a Statute of limitations letter though, CAMCO will stop calling you but they will turn around and sell it to one of their sister organizations Whitewing Financial who will then call you. Send them a cease and desist letter.

These bottom feeder collection agencies buy up old credit reports and old debts listed for pennies on the dollar and then they turn around and settle and then sell the remaining. Consumers can be driven to madness with the harrassment.
