Hello, all. I thank everyone for this site. I began receiving strange letters from the company, CAMCO, about a year ago. They claimed I owed them 10k on some old debt. I ignored it. Now, I have begun receiving phone calls at my place of business. I am grateful this site has let me know I can send a cease and desist letter, but what do I do in the meantime about the phone calls at work? If anyone can help, please respond. Thanks to this site and all the participants.

Fair Debt & Collection Practices Ac prohibits a collector from contacting you at your employer

#2Consumer Suggestion

The cool part about the FDCPA (Fair Debt & Collection Practices Act) is that it prohibits a collector from contacting you at your employer IF THEY KNOW THEY SHOULDN'T - and you don't need to inform them in writing.

The next time one of these fine folks contacts you at work, tell them "I'm writing in my planner that at 2:43 on November 8, 2003 I notified you that I will not accept these calls at my place of employment - and if I do receive another call from you or anyone from your company in the futer, I will note who called me and when, and will file charges against the company and the person who contacted me."

I suspect you may still get called until your Cease & Desist is received (by the way, send it BOTH by Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested, and CC: Regular Mail - that way even if they refuse the Certified, you have noted that you mailed it regular mail too), but then at least you have a leg to stand on.

Good Luck
