I have been contacted Semoine at CAMCO in Rockford Illinois stating I owe them money in the amount 1200.00 For a Montgomery Wards account I had over 10 years ago. When I contacted them at the number on the letter, they were very gracious in offering me an 80% dicount, making my total owed 238.00.

I did send I 50.00 payment then I discovered they were a ripoff company. I refuse to send them any more money since this account was charged off a long time ago. I continue to recieve phone calls and letters in the mail, although I have asked them to stop contacting me.

Clarification on SOL, they are breaking the LAW

#7Consumer Suggestion

Tue, October 28, 2003

Just some clarification, I belive that even though you may have reset the statute of limitations clock (the time frame that creditiors are allowed to activively persue collection actions) they can not report the debt again to the credit reporting agencies. the SOL for debt collection and the SOL for debt reporting are two different things and they are independent of each other. once the 7 year time period is up the item can and should be taken off your credit report and CANNOT be re-reported, if they have told that they will they are breaking the LAW, and you have them, the money that you paid them in this case can not start the SOL clock and you can SUE them.

I reasearched this and belive i am correct, however if some one nows better please let me know....

Complain to All of the Attorney Generals

#7Consumer Suggestion

Sat, September 20, 2003

Complain to All of the Attorney Generals that apply, but if your state has its own TILA laws, complain to the Banking commissioners as well, finally Camco is incorporated in Delaware, complain to all of the applicable state agencies there. For some reason Colorado would not renew their license, hmmmm, I wonder why!

If the payment was made under duress i.e. threats of legal action..

#7Consumer Suggestion

Tue, September 16, 2003

If the payment was made under duress i.e. threats of legal action, threats on your credit report, ect this could not be enforced. In fact, if they did so immediately file a complaint with the bbb, the ftc, and the attorney generals in both florida and illinois. If they did do this post it here.

you have "re-obligated" yourself to this debt

#7Consumer Suggestion

Im concerned that now you have paid them something, that you have "re-obligated" yourself to this debt, making it a current debt...anyone have any ideas about this? Can you stop payment on the payment?

Stop the Check Now!!!

#7Consumer Suggestion

Mon, September 15, 2003

Call your bank and stop payment on that check
RIGHT NOW!

If you pay them ANYTHING they could re-date the
account and/or hit you for the full amount and
do it LEGALLY.

Whatever it costs to cancel payment on that check
will be WORTH IT.

Save yourself some grief please.

These people are total bottomfeeders and will
hit you for all they can.

Don't trust them, or speak to them.

If you must, send a request for varification or
a dispute letter, then a cease comm.

Good Luck,

Ann that one $50 payment you made was the biggest mistake you made. That means that you have started the statute of limitations all over from the beginning. Believe me I know I used to work there. So now you have a fresh 7 years or whatever your state SOL is to have this account on your credit report.
