Complaint Review: CAMCO

CAMCO - Supervisor Mario Holmes On the third try they finally got me on the phone and threatened me about this non-existent debt from "the 80s" ripoff Rockford Illinois

This is my second report on CAMCO. The first was reporting two phone messages about a week ago.

They called me again today, at home, on Saturday morning at 915am LA Time and I was here to answer the phone. They wanted to offer to settle an old debt for me - a Citibank account from the 80s that they claim I opened, paid on, and then abandoned. The amount owed was $1369.07 but with interest continuing to compound my full debt was now $3259.33. Their offer to settle today was for $1000.

I told them there was no way this debt was valid and they were never going to get me to send them a penny, and that they need to stop calling me. The guy put his "supervisor" on the line - MARIO HOLMES - and he got nasty with me.

I told him this was a load of crap and he said that if I meant this debt was fraudulent that I should "put it in writing" and they would investigate that, but that they were sure it was real and I would still be liable.

The scary thing is they had every address I ever had in the state of CA plus my correct SSN. More addresses than ever show up on my credit report even!

I can't recall ever having this debt and I certainly won't pay them. I denied it every chance I got with them both on the phone.

Is it true that if they continue to call me after I send a Cease and Desist that they can be fined? If so I'd love to learn the details.

Thanks!

"Sean" tried calling again today

"Sean" - the nice one - tried calling me again today. I told him he needs to stop calling me.

He said he was calling with a second settlement offer for me and seemed surprised I didn't want to hear the details.

I told him that I'd been doing some digging on his company on the internet and found out lots of great info, and he freaked out. He said that the internet is a terrible place and that there is a lot of horrible information out there about everyone, and that if I were to research "even your current employer" that I would find plenty of horrible negative incorrect information.

I laughed and told him that if they called me again I would sue them and win, and then I told him how exciting this all is and how I'm really going to enjoy suing them. Then I hung up on him.

I wonder if he'll call again?

Harder to sue in cali ..california is a 2 party state to tape phone calls

In your state you must let them know they are being taped before you do so. IT is nearly impossible to sue unless you have some proof and many attorneys, even knowing about camcos reputation, will not take the case. Say something like 'all calls may be recorded' at the beginning. Find my post for personal free help.

What steps to sue?

I'd love to sue them if it won't cost me more than I can hope to recover. Also I am in CA and they are in IL - does that matter?

I would really appreciate someone telling me how to sue them - and of course it would be useful to everyone reading here as well.

Thanks in advance!

They have won in civil, federal, and small claims. Maybe mario holmes is not mario bianchi as bianchi is italian.

Not surprised they use several different names.

The names they used on me were Sean Edwards (the first guy, almost soft spoken) and Mario Holmes, the nasty one who came on the line after I said this was ridiculous. It's funny that you say they make it hard to work there if you're black because both of these guys definitely sounded black. (I know I run the risk of being called racist but it's true.)

Oh and what's the fdcpa?

Has anyone had any luck bringing action against them?

LOL. He musta changed his name. This is undoubtable Mario Bianchi who is the biggest law breaker at camco. He trains the collectors on how to destroy the fdcpa and make more scam money. I have many emails about him from employees and the stories are both ludicrous and downright frightening if you are a female employee there(and african american even worse).
