Canecutter Media Hired canecutter to print a book They took the $2000 deposit and disappeared after never delivered product New York
This has been a six month saga with Canecutter, but to put it simply: They are a commercial printer. I contracted with them Feb. 19th 2004 to print a 344 page book. They claim that the first print run of 1,000 books was lost in shipment (how you can lose a skid of books, I don't know!). After much trouble, they said they would re-print the order and ship again. The week my replacement printing was to be shipped, they said they we're moving their Manhattan offices to the "warehouse".
I haven't heard from them since. The only number I have for them is the Manhattan office number, and that is just an answering machine. Of course they haven't returned any of my calls.

After 4 weeks, I get a call from my sales rep at Canecutter. He said he couldn't believe no one gave me their new number. (My argument: if my rep doesn't tell me, who will?). He said they would send my money back pronto. Well, it's been 10 days, so I called Canecutter. I talked to Neil there and he said won't give me my money back until I take this ripoff report off the internet. But given the track record of this company, I just don't trust them. I told them if they send me the check, I'll have this removed. He said, "No. Do what you have to do." and hung up on me. Seems to me, if they want to do this in a business like manner, they would send me something in writing stating that if I take this notice down, they would send me my money. I would definitely agree to that. But with someone's "word" over the phone after being lied to for so long by this company (I was promised my book shipment by my rep, no later than 6 weeks after approving the book proofs. It's been over 7 months now), do they really think I'd fall for this? I consider this blackmail, so I guess my next step will be the New York District Attorney's office. I will also be reporting them to the Publisher's Marketing Associations black list until this matter is resolved.
