Complaint Review: Capella University

Flex path program has been shady right from the start. 

I entered the program so I could earn my BS in Psychology.  I had already had many classes in psychology from another college, but due to my relocation I needed to finish my degree online.  Capella sounded great over the phone as they told me I could take as long as I want to finish my classes as long as I paid my tuition. 

It has been a nightmare from there. 

I started the summer of 15...they entered me without my concent into general psychology.  I informed them that I already had the class as it was listed in the official transcript they recieved from my prior school.  They argued with me that it was not the same...I informed them it was an university with the same accreditation that they have.  They had me petition the program only to receive a W in the class.  This is a bad mark for me as I am trying to continue on to nursing.  I asked them to remove the W as it was their error not mine in enrolling in the class.  From what I understand educational institutions are to have a grace period...anyways they refused and offered me no due process.

I continue on and get straight A's in my next three classes.  I next start statisitcs class and turned in an assignment.  I received a A.  I was called into work and ended up working a large amount of OT for the next few weeks.  After that I left on a seminar in another state where I did not have the time or the ability to turn in my assignments.  I did manage to complete two more of the five assignments for the class.  When I return home, I logged on the computer to turn in my next two assignments.  I had been dropped from my class and automatically given a F.  I called them and they said there was nothing I could do.  I said I was told that I had as much time as I needed to complete the class as long as I was current with my payment.  They said yes thats the universities policy, but not the dept of educations policy.  We are sorry there is nothing you can do except take the class over next quarter, but the F will remain on your transcript.   Very frustrated with Capella as not only am I dealing with academic issues, but they have also lost my financies three times.  Then as of two weeks ago it was getting close to the end of one class.  I called the flexpath coach and informed them I had one assignment to finish and would it be an issue if it crossed into another pay cycle.  The flexpath coach informed me that there was no issue and to continue to work on my class.  I asked this will not affect my status as I've had some miscomunication in the past with ths program and it has affected me very negatively.  He said its not a problem, I'm marking on the account right now and you are good.  I continue on finishing my work in my classes.  The next thing I know I am dropped from the class and given a F.  I turned in four out if 5 papers 1 of them I received a B the other 3 I got A's.  So even if I didnt finish the last paper in time I should of at the very worst receiced a B in the class.  Then I get a email saying I was dropped from the program, even though with the two F's my GPA is 3.0 with them.  I asked why this happened as I've been communicating through email and the phone and was told by a representative of Capella that it was approved that I turn in my paper a few days late.  They did not contact or call me back for over a week and a half.  I would call and email them on a dialy basis trying to find out what was going on.  When they finally answered my call they told me sorry nothing you can do.  They told me I could continue my studies online with them but not in flexpath. 

I was getting straight A's in all my courses ...Even the so called ones they marked as F's.  I am a very responsible person who has never had issues with college classes.  I dress up and show up.  Capella has poor communication that is an issue, plus practices that are illegal.  Financially they have also had issues with payemtents.  Some of the professors are great.  The majority are not.  The T.A's do not even answer questions posted to the boards.  I once waited two weeks for a response that was critical to me moving on in the class.  When I was finally able to get an answer the TA basically told me to take someone elses work and change the words around and submit.  plagiarize basically. 

I even caught them adding a F to my transcript for a class I received a A in.  When I questioned them they said  "we didn't know you could see that on your record...it must be a computer glitch.  

Do yourself a favor and do not even consider this university.  It has been nothing but a headache since day one.
