Complaint Review: Capital Acquisitions & Management Company CAMCO

I recently received telephone calls and a letter from CAMCO (or should that be SCAMCO?) about an alleged debt of mine they claim to have bought from Citibank.

I received what CAMCO described as a "generous settlement" offer in respect of this debt allegedly due to Citibank. This debt was "from the early nineties" in the words of their caller who was not more specific as to the date. The fact is that I never had any debt from Citibank at that time. I have a perfectly clean credit record from all 3 agencies i.e. nothing shows up as
a problem debt.

These people are extortionists. If you experience a similar problem, send them a letter, by certified mail or other means that will provide proof of receipt. State that you dispute the debt and request a copy of the agreement with your signature and account history. Instruct them not to call you. Do not pay. Do not agree to pay. Do not acknowledge the debt.

As a resident of New York State, I have also notified the NYS and Illinois Attorneys General as well as the NYC Consumer Affairs Department.
