I was also called one day by a company Identifying itself as American Financial and they were offering me a credit card. I was under the impression this was AMEICAN GENERAL FINANCIAL..a company I have researched and knew.

As all the stories before, they requested a 200 dollar debit from my checking account in order to send me a 200 dollar voucher to pay my card balance in increments of 50$ each. The purpose of the debit was to insure I would have at least 4 months of payments already made. I was a little hesitant, but then thought that AMERICAN GENERAL was a good company.

After I googled their customer service number and got this website, I was scared. I called back in the morning (on the 4 of January)and cancelled my request for credit. I had not recieved anything, I was under no contractual obligation, and I resided in a state that allowed three days for a right to rescind.

Guess what.

They took my money.

My bank said they wouldn't do anything.

I called back and was told that I would probably not recieve a refund due to the fact it was a non refundable fee. I stated that they told me NO fee. IT was for four $50 dollar vouchers to pay on my card if I used it.
They told me at that time if I cancelled before I recieved my card, it was a non-refundable fee.

This company also goes by Capital Financial. When I asked them about the name change, they said numerous people were writing BAD things about them and they had to change their name.

BIG RED FLAG!!!!

I contacted my bank and my bank manager. Even though it may take a week to get the funds back into my account. My bank manager assured me that the problem would be taken care of very expiditiously.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't give out any information over the phone.

I thought I was smarter than this.. Reality is a painful and expensive lesson.
