They withdrew $29.95 from my bank account and called and said someone would be out to my house 9/11/02 between the hours of 5&7PM and no one ever showed up

I received a telephone call from Capital First telling me that I could pay $29.95 from my checking account and would receive a mastercard. I agreed and gave them the information.

They withdrew the funds from my account and made a second phone call to me telling me that some one would be visiting me at my home on 9/11/02 between the hours of 5 & 7 pm that evening. I was at home all evening as it is a work night and I don't ever go anywhere.

There is no mistake that I was at home to receive their visit. Much to my surprise no one showed up. I am a single parent struggling to make ends meet. I thought that a credit card would help me get my life and finances back on track. I am trying to put a son through college...pay a car note, pay rent, utilities, and hope that at least once per month I can buy some groceries....I don't spend more than $25 a month on groceries because I don't have the funds available.

I was recently told that I will have to have a surgery and knew that this would dig even deeper into my empty pockets. I would like to know if there is anything I am able to do legally to get my money back.

Also someone needs to go on TV about this....I hear things like this in the news and it's really my only way to be made aware. Please advise me if I can do anything legally! Thank you for your time

on calling the FBI - Waco Texas

I did call the FBI in WACO at the number 254-772-1627 - and was told that they didn't handle this. That they had gotten a number of calls. They said it was a Secret Service issue - and sent me alont to 254-741-0576. and THEY didn't handle EITHER. They suggested the Better Business Bureau, and the FTC. and a couple of web sites. for gov't agencies dealing with fraud.
Hey - How do we report this problem? I can't find an agency yet that wants to get involved ( I get told BBB and FTC - places that mostly just compile info. that's all.) I'll still try. It's kind of personal.

EDitor's Comment ... MORE IMPORTANT TO POST ON RIP-OFF REPORT THAN WITH THE BBB OR ATTORNEY GENERAL

Listing your complaint on many Government links are no better than the BBB and are most likely just a waste of time, giving you false hope. Many government sites (like the BBB) just collect all information from you, the consumer, but never make that information available for all to see, so consumers will NOT be educated as to what exactly they should be looking out for. By these agencies not letting you see these complaints, making them public, you never know how bad the company or individual rip-off really is.

On the other hand, many government agencies have and do come to the Rip-off Report for information. We have been assisting many government agencies for some time now, including the FBI and Attorney General offices from around the country..

Now that all these Rip-off Reports are out in the open for everyone to see, in a way, this embarrasses these agencies into doing something when they see so many reports on a Company or Individual, because they are now out in the open for all to see.

Unfortunately, many (not all) Attorney General Office's and government agencies will not move against a rip-off unless there is going to be some sort of publicity on the rip-off. By reporting your experience on the Rip-off Report, is the next best thing to getting your story on TV or in a newspaper. Most national TV networks and many local TV stations from all around the country also come to the Rip-off Report for information they will not get from the BBB, Attorney General office's or any other government agency.

Rip-off Report has instigated many local and national stories, resulting in help for victims' world wide, in one way or another. Most government agencies will never even bother with rip-offs unless it involves $50,000 or more.

Now that the government is cutting back even more dollars for these types of programs, this number will even get higher and we can expect even less to get done, by even less people to work on all these rip-offs

PLEASE CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNT

#5Consumer Comment

Lynn, please read some of the rebuttal comments and look for the ones telling you to close your account. If it has been less than 30 days, your bank can refund your money. Tell them these were unauthorized charges and you can fill out an ACH Affidavit. But you have to close your account because they will be withdrawing other amounts also. You can open another one, but you definately need to close your present acct before they take all your money. One guy wrote that after he closed his account, another $600 tried to be taken from his closed acct. Also let the bank put a note on your present acct that illegal activity has been going on and you NEVER authorized these charges.

Good Luck!
