I was called by Capital First to optain a credit card for 19.95, they told me more about it, the no interest fee, credit line of $2,500, etc. All I had to do was give them the 19.95 and they would send it to me. It was a free 7 day free trial, but if I choose to keep it after my 7 day's, it would cost 59.95 for a processing fee, and 99.95 for a annual fee. i asked them if I decided to keep it, if I could have it billed to the credit card cause I did not have that much money, the guy on the phone said "YES" we do it all the time like that.

So I gave them my bank account #. I waited 2 weeks, and had not received my credit card. I called them on a Friday, the lady said it hadn't been mailed out yet and to expect it at the end of the next week, or the beginning of the next. It came the beginning of the next on a Tuesday. When I received it, it was not a credit card they sent me. It was a package of information about the Mastercard, and a bunch of applications to fill out and send back so then they could approve me for the card.

It wasn't a credit card at all, it was a debit card, I had to put the money into it before I could use it. So I closed up the package, called them, got customer service that said, Due to the high quanity of calls leave your name and phone # and we will return your call. Needless to say, no one called me back so I could cancel. I called twice that day, twice the next, and twice the next. On the 3rd day that I had my package, they had taken the 59.95 and 99.95 out of my checking account.

It has been 5 weeks now, I call them every day, get totally different answers every day, have wrote their so called "CORPRATE" office 3 different letters, spent money on those to have them sent registered. I have contacted the Better Business Bureau, the Attorney's General for our state. I have also had fees I had to pay to my bank to try and have a stop payment, a reverse payment.....

I am totally blown away by this, I spent well over $250.00 and have nothing to show for it. We need to put a stop to this company.

You Must Close Bank Account

#5Consumer Suggestion

Hi Crystal,

You have done all the right things, except completely closing the bank account. This same "company" got me. I was also told the They got my $19.95, but after I got my "packet", I saw it was a scam and looked up Capital First online and ended up here at www.ripoffreport.com. Can you say RED FLAG?

I went to my bank on May 24th and had them stop Capital First Benefits from further debiting my account for the $59.95 and $99.95. Well, May 31st, I logged into my online banking and saw that $159.90 was missing from my account. Immediately called the bank, and although the money had been set up for debit, it had not been sent to Capital First yet.

Know how they did it? They used only their initials CFB after they couldn't get the money the first attempt. You will start being debited by Mega Savers and Hartford Auto Club too. The only way to stop them is to close the bank account immediately and follow through with letters to the Attorney General.

Good luck, we're all in this together and need to do what it takes to stop these scam artists.

Your on the right track

Although I did fall for the same exact scam. Sounds like your on the right track contacting your bank. However I would never had agreed to give them my number to call me back. The way I see it if they are able to answer the phone they can talk to me. Another thing when you do talk with them don't act like anything is wrong when at first talking to them. This keeps them on the phone.I infact had a customer service rep try that same technique on me. WhenI contacted my bank they had me fill out a "dispute form" and put a stop from that company debiting further.

Also I sent the packet back to the so-called corporate head quarters, with a nice but demanding letter that they give me my money back. The customer service rep said I would hear from their corporate office anytime from 1 week up to 4 weeks. They keep you waiting and don't return your calls because they know they can keep your money if it has passed either 30 or up to 60 days. What that means is your bank will help you if by their regulataions the time period has not exceeded either the 30 or 60 day time period. I did not hear from the corporate office but by the next week I did hear from my bank and all my money was returned. Though it is suggeted to contact the company who scammed you first to ask for your money back, this does not always work. So the next steps would be to contact your bank because the company who has scammed you does not like to answer to anyone else.

Also I too contacted my states Attorney General and the BBB. Though my situation is cleared up I will continue to put the word out there. It does not stop there. I received 2 peices of mail from a Mega Saver and an auto club. They both wanted to debit my account another $99 and 54.90. After about 8 phone calls later I was ablt to cancel...supposedly. These companies are directly related to Capital First. They will stop at nothing to get your money.

When you are able to cancel always get a referance #, especially for the packet when you send it back, because you

will need to write this # on the top right corner of your written paper. In the end my husband and I closed our old account and opened a new one. That is by far the safest way to go. Good Luck!
