Three-four years ago I recieved a collection call from Capital One. They were trying to collect on an eighty thousand dollar and change charge that I had not made. I had not even recieved the monthly bill. I spoke with everyone all the way to the corporate office. They claimed that I had charged that amount at a convienience store where I bought gas using the charge card. The owner of the store let me go through all their financials and the only record was my charge for gas which was between $30 and $40. Then Capital One said it was the gas company. So I spoke with the gas company and they told me how to handle it.

Capital One also admitted that I should not have recieved that phone call before the billing for that month went out. They told me it had already been reported to the credit reporting agencies. They eventually admitted an error but would not admit it was internal. I had a $300 line of credit with them and they let an over charge like that go through I do not think so. I did threaten with an attorney-they would not respond to my attorney's calls. However, they finally took it off my account. When I told them I wanted to close the account they informed me that I had to pay off my balance. I did that and closed the account.

The problem now is that they promised they would contact the credit reporting agencies and take this off my record as you can see it is still on there. Whatever you can do to help me get this off I would appreciate. I have filed a dispute about it with the credit reporting agency. I just want my record clear of this - if it was my fault fine but it wasn't and they handled it very badly. I cannot stand to be lied too.
