Complaint Review: CAPITAL ONE AUTO FINANCE

CAPITAL ONE AUTO FINANCE Accused of late payment when we are on direct pay. How can you have a late payment on direct pay? Capital one forgot to take the payment out of our bank. Want us to pay $35 to process extension. What Plano, Texas

We have a loan with Capital One Auto Finance, Inc. What a ripiff company. Our frist clue should havd been when the car dealer came back and said Capital one would finance it but they added a, are you ready for this, $4000.00 to the car loan to "repair our credit" after our bankruptcy. And then the car dealer couldn't seam to answer our questions about the increase.


He gave us a phone number, supposedly the loan officer that the car salesman spoke to, and we tried and tried to get ahold of them. Left messages, called repeatedly called and called but no luck. Frustrated we gave up.


I have memory and nerve problems and this past August I got a late notice. I had forgotten to make the payment. That was my fault. So, after being routed to I don't know how many people, mostly in India, I got someone on the US. Hooray!!!


I told her the problem, she asked me if I had been offered the "Fresh Start Program". No one had even said they had this. Instead just kept saying make double payment or else. This person set us up with the payments to catch up, but, would have to take them directly from our bank account. Ok no problem.


So she set up the catch up payments and then set us up on "Direct Pay". On Feb. 11, 2010, we got a late notice that our payment haden't been recieved. I called the 800 number on the letter and got someone in India. Now, frist I live in the US, second I hate to try to deal with someone who can only say one thing, "your account is past due ma'am." I kept trying to get them to understand we are on thier direct pay system, but, no luck.


After talking to I don't know how many people I finally got someone in the states. Whewwww!!! But wait, this person didn't get it either. Well I finally got so mad and told them I was going to get a lawyer, call all the tv stations and newspapers.


That finally got some action(I thought), notttt! She said they were in the wrong and she would extend the payment to the end of the loan and bring our account currant. She was supposed to email us an extension form and said all we had to do is sign it and FAX it bace. Ok we can do that too.


Several days went by and still did not recieve letter to sign. Called back again, a littli secret, when you reach one of the company's reps in India or where ever, just ask to be transfered to the US. They have to transfer you.


I kept calling for several days, going through all the bs each time. Can I get paid for my time spent trying to get through to these boneheads?! Finally they realize they have my email wrong, gave it again. Got the letter, and it basically makes us at fault, wants us to pay a $35.00 processing fee, and we may or may not get the extension.


The letter says "if we meet thier criteria" for the extension they will give it. Whats wrong with this picture?!!!! We are not paying anything for thier screw up! Anyone know how we can get this solved before it affects our credit? How can a payment be late when you are on "Direct Pay"? We are totally confused and can't get Capital One Auto Finance to understand they screwed up. Why should we pay for thier screw up?

You are definately not alone in this situation.  We are having the very same problem with Capital One Autof Finance.  They are the worst of the worst.  We were paying up to date until my husband lost his job.  We fell behind one month and WHOA don't ask..........Unless you go into hiding the calls are unbelievable, every day every 15029 minutes 1/2 hour at the most and always from India.  The payments are deducted automatically from our account as well and we have been told that there are late charges.  I spoke to some who claims his name is Steve, another one is Martin and so forth and so on..............well we made duplicate payments at one time to make up for the missed payment and then made more than the original amount at other times to pay towards the late payments, but guess what THEY never were posted to where they were supposed to be posted too.  I was told after repeated calls that I would have to PROVE to them that the money was sent in, when they have the summary right in front of them.  They sent me the copy!  They are without a doubt the very worst I have had the misfortune of dealing with.  I cannot wait till we are done with them.. Oh you are lucky we never got the Fresh Start Program.  They told us they could not refinance, however they were supposed to place a payment at the end of the loan which they never did either.  They are incredible.
