I applied for 2 Capital One Cards in 2000. I received one that was secured for $49 at a $200 credit limit and a second for no fee at a $200 limit. After approx 4-6 months, with a balance of approx. $179, and faithful monthly payments, I developed some health problems and missed a due date. I was charged a $25 late fee, (which in itself brought me over the limit)and the following month I was charged an over-the-limit fee of $25. That was the start of the spiral downward...it seemed no matter when I sent the payment, it was never "on time", making it impossible to paydown my credit balance, I was getting additional late fees that were added to my already over-the-limit fees...making it impossible financially to pay down the balance below the $200 credit limit (what customer on Earth would want to sit and calculate dates, add'l fees, when creditors received payments, late fees and prior payments made. Not matter what the calculation, YOU ARE NEVER GOING TO BE RIGHT IN THEIR EYES!) At this point I was so frustrated I called and complained about the fees and asked if they would allow me to combine the two accounts into one, they said no, there excuse being that one was secured, the other wasn't. (This provided a sneaky opportunity for them to charge unreasonable fees, ironically making having the credit card(s)a hassle rather than a benefit. I was so caught up with trying to pay down the debt that their business practices were emotionally getting to me...as I was trying to clear up my credit, not make it worse! In the end I borrowed money from family to pay the cards off, and on one still received a $3.42 charge after payment in full! I made sure I paid it on time, and couldn't believe it when they sent me another statement with a $25 late fee charge...However, they finally reconciled with me in Jan. of this year, but not without a lot of intimidation and runaround. If you are thinking of applying for a CapitalOne Card, I urge you not to...it is more hassle than what it is worth! A CapitalNone card is your best bet! "I get so irritated with dumb people! First...do you really think that with 45 million cardholders that we would single you out and just start charging you fees for no reason. No, we do that to everyone!"

Well, I'm glad to hear that you don't discriminate and just single out one person to charge fees for no reason; you do it to everyone. I gotta give you credit for telling it like it is, even if you are rude and arrogant and crooked.

Personally I had a Capital One card (2 of them actually) and I never had any problems. But that sure doesn't mean a lot of others aren't having problems. And to see an attitude like this; lady you really need to get a job as a bill collector or something where you can put your hostility and arrogance to good use.

I to was subject to the late fee's and over the limit fee's from Capital One. I pleaded with them to freeze my account and to cancel my card so that I could pay them off in due time without just getting further behind in fee's. They wouldnt do it. I understand that this company is out to make money.

But come on...if you had worked with me you would still have my buisness and not my hate. After a few years of dealing with all of this and it ruining my credit rating I have finally paid them off. And not the 1,200.00 that they compiled over these years.

I managed to knock it down to 400.00. The original card was for 200.00. Go figure. After all said and done, they made out with over 700.00 of my hard earned dollars for one month of paying an auto insrance bill. My mistake. When the commercial comes on for Capital One and they say at the end, "Whats in your wallet?" I say my money. Because its not theirs, its mine.

I buy only what I can afford. Strict rule.....if you dont need it and dont have the money for it then dont barrow it. For all you younge people in college or otherwise recieving credit cards from any company, dont do it. Its not worth it. They will ruin your future.

You need to understand exactly how valueble your credit really is. EVERYONE will use their credit at one time or another throughout the coarse of their life. Lets just make sure its good credit and not bad. No credit is better than bad credit! Oh, and if your dealing with Capital One to pay a bad debt, watch out for Surpass. Its the company that Capital One hired to collect for them.

I did a tele-check for the pay off amount one day only to recieve a letter at my parents address,(mind you, I never ever lived at this address) stateing that they would be automatically deducting the same amount from the same account in two weekes. I was thankfully lucky enough to be able to cancel the tele-check before they could cash it and then proceaded with many a road block to try to take care of this matter dirretly with Capital One instead of the cut throat collectors.

Today, I recieved an officail letter from a attorney at Capital One telling me that my account was paid in full and that they reported it to the three major credit agencies. Woo h*o! Lesson learned.........Be very carefull with your credit, it will determine you future with any major loan...such as a home or a auto loan. I paid 29% on my first auto loan and then 19% on my second. Im at 7% on my home loan. It should be way better. Im paying to this date for that one stupid mistake.....Capital One.

Credit Card Companies ARE Rip-offs! ...To this woman who claims that she's employed by this so called "wonderful company" (Capitol One)

This woman who claims that she's employed by this so called "wonderful company" (Capitol One) has a lot of nerve shooting off her mouth in the manner that she did by referring to certain consumers as lazy & irresponsible.

First of all, where are those great "hardship" programs that credit card companies offer! Lady, who are YOU trying to kid? I lost my job of 6 years after my employer decided to sell the company.

I was unemployed for 9 months & let me tell you that I notified my credit card companies immediately & explained my situation. Capitol One was one of those companies & they certainly didn't offer ME any hardship program. Instead they tacked on every fee that they could (first their late fees which put me over my limit, then their over the limit fees).

I have never abused my credit cards & have always paid them on time before I lost my job. I might add that I am a single mom also supporting a daughter on my own because I have an ex husband that doesn't believe in helping to support his child which only made matters worse. So, don't you dare judge the customers that are responsible for employing YOU! Without the customers, you might be in the same position that a lot of other people are & without a job.

Capitol One needs to take a good look at the things that you had to say in your rebuttal against someone that fell on hard times because you certainly do not have the customer service skills to be working in the industry that you do. But then I guess that's why Capitol One is the rip-off company that they are.

I closed my account voluntarily with Capitol One & paid my account in full after I got back on my feet, but these companies are in the business of making money, so they really could care less about what your situation is. I guess that's why you still have your job, because they employ callous people such as yourself to do the dirty work!

Another rip-off company is Direct Merchants Bank. They took me for $800 in bogus over the limit fees when I was unemployed because after a few times making my regular payment late (which was not due to me being lazy or irresponsible as you put it)even when my payments were made on time, since I was over the limit, they claimed that they had the right to still charge me late fees since my over the limit fees were not paid along with my regular payment. They're all rip-offs & now that I'm back on my feet, I'll never have another credit card (by choice) because they really could care less about the consumer!

First I'd like to say that I am a former Capital One cardholder and didn't seem to have any problems with the compnay. It was my choice to have my account closed. However the one thing that disturbs me is to have someone who is supposed to be a representative of the company use a forum such as this to insult people. Just because people express their opinion doesn't make them "stupid" or "lazy" it just means they didn't read the FINE print. Of course fine print is fine for a reason and you can bet it's not to save trees.

My suggestion to Carrie is this. If you have trouble dealing with complaining customers maybe being a part of a "service" type industry isn't your cup of tea. Perhaps you could choose a different field instead of insulting people.

Generation after generation of my family (to include myself) have fought to defend "stupid cardholders" rights to express their opinons for and against different topics and/or companies. My hat's off to those that choose to say what they think regardless of what "customer service" people think.

Stupid Cardholders!

#9UPDATE Employee

Mon, May 13, 2002

I get so irritated with dumb people! First...do you really think that with 45 million cardholders that we would single you out and just start charging you fees for no reason. No, we do that to everyone!

All fees and rules regarding fees are listed on your original application and disclosure of terms. To make this as simple as possible, the system has rules set up and if a rule is broken (your fault), the system charges the fee. I am a Capital One employee and it is your responsibility to pay your bill on time & stay under your credit limit. Everyone has a reason for being late (just like you originally did).

Most people with bad credit don't have bad credit due to being lazy. It starts when something happens. If you would have been proactive and responsible versus lazy and irresponsible, you wouldn't have had the experience you had. Most people make the mistake by not contacting their creditor when a problem arrises...they wait.

Why??? Credit card companies have Hardship programs available if you call before the situation worses. But then we just refer the to your credit history. If you wait until the problems are major with your account, you did it to yourself! So, you get screwed all the way around. Grow up and learn to handle your affairs...or we will!
