On January 9th, I contacted Capital One, because I had made my final payment that brought my balance to 0, to cancel the account.

I had to sit there and argue with the representative for 10 minutes that I wanted to cancel my account, and no I didn't want a lower interest, I wasn't interested in a higher limit, and no I was not interested in anything but closing the card. Finally it was closed. yay! right? wrong!

Next month I received a bill. 2 weeks after I closed the account, a charge for some kind of protection, I don't remember signing up for it, but during the course of this they told me that the first charge was in 1999.

I called back and had the charge removed stating that I didn't see how they could authorize a charge AFTER it was canceled. I was adv that as I had a negative balance the charge was still active. Ok they removed the card THEN I received a bill for the LATE fee for not paying the charge that I had removed.

I was then told, by a real *itch that as long as a recurring charge comes on the card, the card will be automatically reopened and that I am responsible for that charge. For clarification, I asked her if I canceled the card, and a year later, a recurring charge I forgot about occured, would that be applied. She stated, "yes, that would open the account as if it had never been closed." don't use them...they SUCK!!!
