Some years ago when Capital One first came on the scene, I had one of their credit cards. As is my habit, as soon as the bill would arrive, I would send out payment the same day. All went well as they gradually wooed me up to a $5,000 line of credit. The very first time my card got close to the max, according to Capital One, my payment which had three weeks to reach them (only 130 miles from my home) would not mysterically arrive until the day after the the due date thereby slapping my account with a late fee that would then put my balance over the limit and then they would add an additional over credit line fee. A sneaky back to back double whammy. This happened on three separate occassions. Calls to the company were futile. I called the Virginia BBB and Consumer Protection Agencies only to be told that they had thousands of simular complaints against Capital One. From then on I sent every payment Registered Mail. When I had a signed receipt each month showing that payment arrived two days after being mailed and was indeed received by them long before the due date, the crap stopped abruptly! Although it cost me extra each month to send the payment this way, it saved me lots from their scam charges. Every time I see their commercials I want to puke. They have grown into a multibillion dollar business by deceitful practices which bilked millions from their customers dishonestly. Julie Cumberland, Maryland
