In December of 2002 I was behind on my Capitol One Master Card account and it was turned over to collections. I made serveral payments, but that was not enough to get it caught up and off my back. Finally in June of 2003 I paid the collection agency $270 to close it off and get it out of my hair.

All well and good I thought. Wrong, six months later I started getting phone calls from another collection agency about my account with Capitol One. After many phone calls and checking my credit rating, I found that a fake VISA account had been opened up in my name with Capitol One and that was the account I paid off. Therefore my real account was sitting there all that time racking up late payment fees, over the limit fees, @#$% you fees and interest.

I finaly got them to admit the VISA acount was fake and that is suppose to be removed from my credit report. Well that is good, for them!! As the real account is still racking up charges at the rate of over $80 a month.

Of course they will not provide a item statement of the charges on either of the accounts. I suspect all but a small amount of the real Master Card account was charged off to the Visa account. Hence I didn't hear anything for six months after I thought it was taken care of. If there had been a large balance I would of heard something sooner.

I have disputed this with the Credit Bureaus, and called every goverment agency I can think of. All to no avail. It seems places like Capitol One are free to rip people off and report what ever they want to the Credit Bureaus until we are forced to hand over what ever amount they pull out of the air, to fix our credit rating.
