I made one payment to Capital One before the Due Date and a second payment after the due date thinking the second payment would apply to the next month's payment but I was wrong.  Because the next month's payment was made in the current month instead of the next month, the payment was not applied to next month.  A $25 late fee was applied.  When I call Capital One's customer service rep, they told me that if I made the payment a day later, then the late fee would not apply.  Moral of the story is that I was penalized by Capital One for making a payment early by 1 day.  They encourage people to pay late and will levy a fee if you pay too late.  They will also levy a penalty fee if you pay too early as well.
