Capital One Travel Mysterious unauthorized charge of $249.95 keeps appearing on my CapOne credit card charge. Internet
Three times now some outfit calling itself "Capital One Travel" has out of the blue slapped an unasked for and unauthorized charge of $249.95 on my Capital One Mastercard. The contact phone number listed next to the entry on my statement is fraudulent -- I got a no-longer-working message when I called. In late March 2011 this charge appeared again on my account after a gap of three years, and I contacted CapOne, who acted like they'd never heard of CapOne Travel and treated it as fraud. I was issued a new card and the charge disappeared.
Then, in mid-July 2011, the charge reappeared on my statement, back-dated to mid-June. I know it wasn't there in early July, as I paid the card off at that point. Contacting Capital One again gets me through to the fraud section once again. How does this keep happening? They have no answer, just the same "solutions".
I'd been thinking that it was a CapOne internal scam, but now after a little internet research I'm wondering if this actually is from well known internet thieves Simple Escapes, who've retagged themselves with a name to make it sound as if Capital One was involved and make it less traceable to themselves.
