Received "Pre-Approved" offer for a Platinum MasterCard with a 0% APR on purchases for six months. The offer stated "Credit line up to" with three options, $1000, $5000, and $7500, with the $7500 checked. After applying online as instructed, we received a "Platinum" card with only a $500 credit limit. We have excellent credit history, and called to request that the credit line be increased to at least $5000, since the offer stated "up to $7500". The request was denied, so we requested that the card be cancelled, and the representative gave us a hard time. CapitalOne wasted our time with this deceptive offer. Clearly they are using misleading marketing practices to suck people in and then only give them a small credit line. Although I understand there are no rules regarding naming, a "Platinum" card offer suggests a higher credit limit than $500. Brad Souderton, Pennsylvania
