Capitol Choice Consumers Credit, Hartford Auto Club Ripped off . . . gave away my checking account number! tricked and lied to us Miami Florida
About five months ago I was on visa.com applying for a credit card since I would be heading to college soon.
I chose capitol one and filled out an application and had received an automated response saying that I would know if I was eligable by mail within 7-10 days.
Convienently, about 8 days later I received a letter in the mail from Capitol Choice Consumers Credit, so to my disadvantage, I assumed it was the same thing since I have never gotten anything like this in the mail before.
It asked for a one-time fee of $39 because I had not yet established credit (I am only 18). So I sent a check in and was suppose to receive my "pre-approved" credit card within 7-11 business days.
They called me a week after that letting me know it was on the way and with it I would be receiving "Hartford Auto Club" card as well which was free the first month and if I didn't cancel after that my card would be charged per month.
Three weeks later my card came with a buyers book similar to LTD. It was junk.
I called them and canceled my account, it wasn't what I wanted or was expecting. I did not bother canceling the auto club card because I closed my credit account.
Now five months after all of this I got a bank statement in the mail had stated that I bounced a $99 check.
I called the bank all they had was a company number and said it was a check by phone. After three days I got someone at the company, it was the "Hartford Auto Club".
They said I needed to talk to Capitol Choice. Of course I cannot reach them by anymeans.
They are the only possible way the other company has gotten my check number, I had never communicated and especially NEVER gave them my account info.
There is nothing I can do. I am heading to my bank this afternoon to try and settle it, but I am sure I am going to have to pay the balance.
Becarful.
