BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!! This company will offer you a credit card under the impression that it will have an annual fee. They are very easy to deal with until they get an account open. They will charge your fee monthly without your knowledge. They didn't post my payments until the day after my due date. They then added a $29 Late Fee. I charged one hotel bill of $80. I received my statement showing a total of $80 for the room and a charge for the month. I inquired about this and was told they charged the fee by the month. I sent in a payment for part of the total around the 12 of the month.

The next month I received my statement and it indicated the monthly fee AGAIN plus a late fee of $29. Again I called. I was informed that the payment apparently was not received until the day after the due date. I then paid the balance off and requested the account be closed. The next month I received a statement showing the monthly fee plus a late fee. On calling them, I was told that the account had to be current to close it. I advised them that I remitted the total balance due and the date it was mailed. They told me that the payment "must have been delayed in the mail". So they added another late fee and, due to a balance, they assessed another monthly fee.

I called once more and explained what was happening. I was advised that "we are not responsible for your payment until we receive it". At this point I was not pleased with the scenario. I advised the person I spoke with to note on the account so everyone there had access to the info that the account had been current, according to my figures, and if they called they would be referred to my account record. I received about 3 or 4 more calls regarding the account and advised all of the same thing. The last person I spoke with said they would see about changing the account to reflect closed as of the date I requested. The calls then stopped.

I recently applied for financing for a vehicle. On checking my credit, the bank received a notice that Capitol One had "charged off" $503. I was not happy with this as it had been about a year since there had been any contact from them.

Beware of this group as I have heard from others of this same scenario happening with Capitol One. They apparently will put a question on your credit in retribution for you closing an account with them. Don't even bother to reply to an offer of a credit card...they WILL ruin your credit.
