Capitol One is absolutely ridiculous. Since 2004 they have been sending my now husband collection notices for a card he never had. He never applied for the card, received, it or used it. He has contacted Capitol One numerous times and has asked them to validate the debt. They never have. The only thing they would tell him is that the card started off with a $400.00 balance, and now with all their charges the balance is $1147.00. My husband also happens to be a JR. When they saw they weren't getting anywhere with him they started harassing his father. His father called Capitol One when he started receiving the collection notices and asked them what it was for...He told them the same thing it wasn't his card. He also asked them why would you give me a card with a $400.00 credit line when I have one with $100,000.00 line?? Of course they had no answer for that. Then a little while passes and they start sending my husband the notices all over again. We do the same thing...We call get no where and they won't validate the debt. In fact the last time we actually spoke to someone they told us that the file was too old and they didn't have the charges or receipts on record anymore. Get real..According to my husbands credit report the card was opened in July of 2003...You mean to tell me that they have been trying to collect this debt since 2004 and they just happened to throw the files away?? I don't think so... I am glad I have never even attempted to get a Capitol One card..If that is the line they give to a "so called" customer I can just imagine how they are to the "real" ones. We have even contacted the collection agencies that send us the notices, we told them that my husband never had the card and that Capitol One refuses to validate the debt. They say okay and send it back to the file back to Capitol One. Capitol One starts sending the notices again, when we call them, they send the file to yet another collection agency and the process starts all over. Way to go Capitol One!!
