CAR/X warranty is a deceptive consumer fraud ripoff. Saint Louis, Missouri
CAR/X warranty is a ripoff, I was given a set of brakes but they wouldn't install them because they wanted to replace my calipers which I had done 33,000 miles previously on my 1998 Malibu .....
15 months ago and 34,000 miles ago I went to CAR/X and got new brakes and rotors installed and was told that I would be given a lifetime set of brakes for my 1998 Chevrolet Malibu. The rotors alone costed $250 which I
thought was excessive. Well, they said that I needed new calipers and I said that I would let a Saturn mechanic friend of mine install them They went ahead with the work and gave me the warranty. I had the calipers installed by the Saturn mechanic.
34,000 miles later, I took it back to them and they wouldn't install the pads (I was suppose to get a labor charge of $50) because they had to give me new calipers ($350+). What a ripoff. The manager gave me a box of pads. I had them installed for $90 in labor at a local shop.
I investigated the pads they gave and they were middle grade pads. They seem to be design to last so long in order to get you to come back to the shop and have more work done to your car. The rotors that I had initially installed were $250. The calipers would have been another huge bill. Get the point?
Get the point? Install mediocre brake pads but expensive rotors and calipers and make sure you adjust the back brakes as well. These brakes pads I was given will hopefully last another 34,000 miles. Why couldn't they give you the ones last 50% more?
Sincerely yours!!
