Carchex Aka Carchex.com Paid for professional inspection, ended up with pile of junk with leaks and rust galore. Rye New York
I purchased a carchex report on 1/25/2008 for a 1995 bmw m3 I wanted to purchase in New York. I live in Arizona, and this was the only way possible for my to make sure I wasnt buying a lemon.
Well, the report indicated that the vehicle was in very good condition, with a minor dent "right rear" "left rear" and "hood". The said the bumper was in "ok" (their best rating) condition.. as was the undercarriage inspection.
Well, I get the car here and its a rust bucket. The bumper has rust on it, the body has rust on it, the exhaust system is rusted through...
...AND BEST OF ALL, they said they road tested it... THE CAR HAS NO COOLANT IN IT!
The radiator neck is completely broken off and not connected. The vehicle if driven more than 1 mile or 5 minutes of being on it overheated. THE INSPECTOR SAID THE TEST DRIVE WENT CORRECTLY WITHOUT ISSUE.
It appears they just generate a pre-written report of a vehicle and dont even take the time to actually inspect it. They stated the sunroof, driver side door, and other items did not function when they all function flawlessly.
They stated other things that were fine, ended up being completely broken and in need of repair.
Also, the sample reports they post on the website show nice quality easy to see photos. The photos I recieved looked like they were taken with a $10 cellphone camera, completely out of focus and blurred beyond recognition. The vehicle might have been a purple ferrari or a maroon hummer h2. You couldnt tell that it was a bmw m3 from any photos that were taken.
They also wont return my emails nor requests for a refund. I'm out over $1000 based off their report, and this is only day one. God only knows what else is broken.
Check around, there are other complaints out there. They don't return emails, and don't deliver what they advertise. Caveat Emptor.

Let's see: " Well, I get the car here and its a rust bucket. The bumper has rust on it, the body has rust on it, the exhaust system is rusted through... "
At least the body wasn't rusted thru? Anyway:
"...AND BEST OF ALL, they said they road tested it... THE CAR HAS NO COOLANT IN IT!"
"The radiator neck is completely broken off and not connected. The vehicle if driven more than 1 mile or 5 minutes of being on it overheated. THE INSPECTOR SAID THE TEST DRIVE WENT CORRECTLY WITHOUT ISSUE."
So how on earth do the direct quotes above square with:
"The blame should have been placed on the used car dealer who didnt disclose the information, not the third party who inspected it."
Did the dealer show the inspector the wrong car? How could the dealer's "didnt disclose the information" activities thereby influence the inspection process?
If you choose to inspect something, then isn't it your responsibility to see what should be seen?
Very confusing!! At least "The problem has come to a peaceful resolution...."
Ref OP's update:
"The problem has come to a peaceful resolution between carchex and myself. The blame should have been placed on the used car dealer who didnt disclose the information, not the third party who inspected it. They have been helpful since my initial problem and helped me clear up this situation."

Well, Rich, they do use salt on the roads in NY. And it is damp there.

Upstate NY gets REALLY cold. I used Mobil-1 0W-30 during the winter when we lived there. Can you guess why? And winter lasts a looonnnggg time.... And they use lots & lots & lots of salt. Only Detroit uses more.
NY City, the Bronx, Long Island, Manhattan, etc. are really tough on automobiles. When you park your car somewhere, you never know how much of it you will find when you return to it. In fact, if your car breaks down on a roadway in metropolitan NY, if you can't get it off the road and into a secure location in 24 hours, then don't bother going back for it. The vultures will have started picking it clean..... motor, tranny, seats, ...... When the vultures finally burn the 'vehicle's remains' it is a signal to the road department to remove it. Recycling at its best!
The good news is that the rusting will stop in Arizona. Just don't have a car wreck.
Cars depreciate faster in the northeast simply because they 'disappear' faster there. And a 1995 is pretty old. Taxi companies here will buy two-year-old cabs in NY because they are worth a lot less than is the same make & model that has become two-years-old here.
Maybe Carchex got confused & sent you a report on someone else's M3?
