I've been getting calls from the same group about one a day for about a month or so. They use a local number on the caller id. The automatic message promises lower interest rates if you contect to their call center.

The call center was in India judging by the accents.

The promise was for a much lower interest rate from 22% to around 4%. After collecting a lot of the account information, they transferred me to the "senior financial adviser," Steven.

After a bit more of a sales pitch, "Steven" said he would transfer the balance to a new card with the low interest for a $350 fee. By this point I was getting suspicious and asked for the organization. The name I got was Cardmember Service in Atlanta.

Steven was starting to sound anxious, though polite, about my requests. He did try to assure me all was good and above board. What really set off the alarm bells was when they wanted the rest of my social security number.

I told him to send me everything in writing before I would commit. That essentially ended the conversation.

I've contacted my card to make sure that they don't try to sneak any charges by me.
