I have had a similair situation to the others. I was told to send in a letter by a certain date to close my account by the end of the 6 month term period, in order to not get hit with an early termination fee of $300. I have the person's name who told me this, and I did this via certfied mail on Nov 11th within the specified time periods.

I called today to make sure they got it and processed it. Now I am told that the 6 month term starts on Nov 11th, since my account was on hold as per the Merchant Agreement. I found the Merchant Agreement and this situation is not mention whatsoever. Then I called again and someone else told me the 6 month period started on Oct 3, and ends 5 months from now. Who is making these rulings? I got a supervisor on the phone and got a third date.

Of course I could pay a $300 early termination fee, but I doubt that will have any effect on them. They will most likely just change the date again. They refused to fax me a letter saying when the term will end, so I could document their activities to the state authorities. There is clearly a program to create an "exit fee" for merchants at Cardservice International. I don't know if this is legal in NJ, but either way I will put in a complaint with the NJ Attorney General's office on Monday.
