We had over 45 fraudulent transactions go through our merchant account. When I spoke to loss protection about their fraud protection on linkpoint which they advertise as:

"LinkPoint Secure Payment Gateway is for start-up merchants, as well as for merchants who already have a Web site and want a secure, fast and reliable e-commerce payment solution. The LinkPoint Secure Payment Gateway translates information from a merchant's Web site into a format that can be read by an electronic processing system to process transactions online.

E-commerce means new opportunities and responsibilities for merchants. The LinkPoint Secure Payment Gateway offers merchants the protection of 128-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption, as well as state-of-the-art fraud-protection features, including:
Fraud screening of each transaction prior to submission for authorization.
Additional fraud protection during authorization through Address Verification Service (AVS), MasterCard's Card Validation Code 2 (CVC2), and Visa's card verification value 2 (CVV2).
Protection from repeated fraud through the blocking of:

- Specific credit card numbers
- Internet protocol (IP) addresses
- Email addresses
- Individuals by name
- Purchase values in excess of a threshold dollar amount"

I was told by Geoff Gray in Loss Prevention that they don't check the address, the CVC2 or CVV2 or do any detection at all.

And for this lack of protection they charged us and removed the money from our bank account with permission. Their reason "we have to protect ourselves".

mmmmmmmmmmmm good customer protection there then. Seeing they sent me a statement with charges on it by mail and they didn't provide the services, is that mail fraud?

Cardservice took back $1800 to settle all the fradulent transactions and cancelled the account. Now they want an extra $95 to keep our account in good standing. This is extortion

After two years using Cardservice International and their LINKPOINT terminal.....we got hit.!!!
A fraud came as a Purchase Order from a customer from overseas, we went to our Linkpoint and the Visa was approved and pocessed fine....(even if the address and name did not match) the Linkpoint terminal approved ok....we shipped the parts, the total amount was $8,000
One month later Cardservice took $8,200 from our account...!!!, then they sent us a letter explaining that this is a chargeback because it was a non-authorized transaction...!!!!, it was a stolen credit card form someone in New Jersey or someone in overseas was using it.
How come Linkpoint authorized it? if the address/name did not match?

Walk away from CardService International

#4Consumer Suggestion

We had used CardService International for a few years and became tired of their excess fees and 10.00 for a letter if they sent one to us. Our business grew & grew and we were constantly looking for increases so they wouldn't hold our money back.

In response to chargeback's, we had some of those also, but mainly because our customers didn't recognize or remember the transaction. We were never successful with CardService International in getting a charge reversed even after a customer reversed their original reversal. We would have to charge them again under a different credit card number.

I found that their fees, their % points, and customer service fees, let alone the wait time to receive our monies was getting too much. We left CardService International and went with our Bank who offered ecommerce as well as brick & mortar solutions. Our fees were dropped more by half, and our bank fights for every penny if there is a question.

Go to your bank where your corporate account is and talk to them, more an more banks are offing this service and will work with many gateways. We switch everything and couldn't be happier with that nightmare behind us.
