My nephew got hooked into going to a 4 week fast track refrigeration school and people I've talked to say it's not possible to get HVAC training in just 4 weeks. Everywhere I looked says the same thing, and everyone I talked to says the school is a scam, but these people talked my nephew into it and now he's out over $11000 for the school. He said the admissions directors called him up to ten times a day to get him to go to the school and they promised him they would find him a job when he graduated after 4 weeks. I found out he could make the same money without the school if he got a apprentice job in an HVAC company.

The website is www.refrigerationusa.com and the phone number is 877-755-0244 and they answer the phone Career Training Institute. The school is supposed to be in Huntsville, Alabama.

I grad. from cti in aug. of 2008. I know the training was solid because I have friends that have gone to school for a year or longer in my area and didnt know what I knew when I returned. Within 3 weeks of my return I had multiple job offers, which is impresive in this economy. I chose a job in industrial refrigeration. I have kept in touch with the other 9 students in my class and only 2 have not secured a job but only because of special circumstances they are facing. I believe that this school is doing right, but unfortunatly this type of training is not for everyone. Some people might find it isnt for them, and the school gave us a chance to back out after the first week with no cost incured. I do feel sorry that the person in question here did not or has not taken full advantage of the training.

THERE IS A WAY OUT AND IT IS CALLED STUDENT LOAN LAW! FIGHT TRADE SCHOOL ABUSE!

THERE IS A WAY OUT AND IT IS CALLED STUDENT LOAN LAW! FIGHT TRADE SCHOOL ABUSE!

I WAS BUYING USED LAW BOOKS WHEN I CAME ACROSS A VERY INTERESTING ONE CALLED 'STUDENT LOAN LAW: COLLECTIONS, INTERCEPTS,DEFERMENTS, DISCHARGES, REPAYMENT PLANS, AND TRADE SCHOOL ABUSES' IT IS PUBLISHED BY THE NATIONAL CONSUMER LAW CENTER. I CAN NOT GIVE YOU ADVICE FROM THIS BOOK BECAUSE IT IS THE 2002 EDITION AND I AM SURE THAT IT HAS BEEN SUPERCEDED BY A NEWER EDITION SINCE IT IS NOW SEVEN YEARS LATER --2009!
I THINK THERE ARE LEGAL FORMS IN THE CD ROM IN THE BACK OF THE BOOK TO BE FILED IN COURT, AND I THINK THIS MIGHT HAVE TO BE FILED IN FEDERAL COURT-- NOT A PROBLEM FOR MOST ATTORNEYS.

YOU MIGHT WANT TO CONTACT THE PEOPLE WHO PUBLISH THIS BOOK AND SEE IF YOU CAN GET A MORE RECENT COPY SINCE I DON'T KNOW MANY LAWYERS WHO MAKE A SPECIALTY OF THIS SORT OF LEGAL PRACTICE AND IF YOU KNOW THE RIGHT QUESTIONS TO ASK A LAWYER, HE OR SHE AN DETERMINE IF YOU HAVE A GOOD CASE AND BE BETTER EQUIPPED TO HELP YOU. YOU MIGHT WANT TO GET A COPY AND SHOW IT TO A LAWYER AND SEE IF HE OR SHE COULD HELP YOU GET OUT FROM UNDER THAT DEBT.

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAVE TO BE A LAWYER OR A LAW STUDENT TO GET THIS BOOK BUT HERE IS WHO YOU WRITE TO FOR MORE DETAILS:
PUBLICATION DEPARTMENT,NATIONAL CONSUMER LAW CENTER,77 SUMMER STREET, BOSTON MA 02110.

THE SITUATION YOU ARE DESCRIBING SOUNDS LIKE A CLASSIC CASE OF TRADE SCHOOL ABUSE AS IT IS DEPICTED IN THIS BOOK BUT YOU ARE GOING TO NEED AN ATTORNEY TO STOP THIS.

M Y ADVICE TO YOU IS TO CONTACT YOUR STATE BAR ASSOCIATION--THEY SHOULD HAVE A LAWYER REFERRAL SERVICE AND SEE IF THEY RECOMMEND ANYONE WHO WORKS WITH STUDENT LOAN LAW.

OR CHECK WITH AN ATTORNEY WHO KNOWS BANKRUPTCY LAW AND ASK HIM OR HER ABOUT STUDENT LOAN LAW.

GOOD LUCK! YOU DESERVE A LOT MORE THAN STRUGGLING TO PAY BACK ONE OF THOSE ORGANIZED CRIME-STYLE LOANS WITH THE INTEREST THAT NEVER STOPS!

dear sir, as a recent graduate of cti in huntsville, i can tell you a few things, ya it does cost a pretty penny with a loan from sallie mae. i got a loan without a co signer, i got what i wanted out the school with focus and study after class was done for the night, after job placement did there job and i getting home on saturday night, i started my interviews on tuesday and one of the interviewers gave me a 2 year hvac school test and i got 28 out of 30 right, not bad fo a 1 month school, plus you have to listen to what hey are telling you and pay attention. anywqay, wednesday morning i was offered a job, union shop with own truck, cell after 30 days plus free medical for the family, in al ito comes to 27 dollars an hour. trust me when i say cti works, when you apply yourself and pay attention, you get it and i say it was worth every penny. oh! my friend from oklahoma got a job from o.r.u ttyl

Rushed School...Too High Tuition For 28 days training

#16Consumer Comment

Wed, October 01, 2008

I too was going to attend Career Training Institute in Huntsville Alabama...I did my research about the school and attempted to get student loans from the govt to attend and talked to HVAC companies around my area and I got the same answers from everyone....The school was not being sponsored by any loan agencies for fed student loans and I asked them why and they told me it was because the school was charging too much of a tuition/fee up front for the time period being spent there. Sallie Mae was the only financial support that was being offered and these days they wanted a cosigner and the cosigner had to have excellent credit...

At this point im looking to get into a HVAC apprenticeship and after all the knowledge that I gained with this endeavor I feel that the apprenticeship will be the logical way to go and I wont be adding a $10,900 plus the interest debt to my finances.

to whom it may concern in ohio!

im just wondering where the heck you got your info on the ppl there calling you 10 times a day, saying that the school is a scam and other things! first of all, i am going to this school soon and they are nothing of what you said, they are wonderful to work with and it has been a pleasure at this point for me to deal with them. in fact, i think im the one who has been calling them 10 times a day and they are always willing and happy to help me cuz im the type of person who expects things done quickly and i am really persistant.

also, i have talked to a prior graduate who completed the school in late fall of 2006 at the age of 29. he said it was the best move he has made and when he started his job, which by the way was placed by the school. he now is a team leader for the commercial side and the install team!

you know its crap like this that makes good things look bad and i think it is a personal slap in the face to me, the employees at cti and all 800 grads who have left there and have succeeded in there endeavours!

thanks travis jones

Unfounded Complaint - Graduates Are Well Trained, Job Placement Service is Outstanding.

I found this report through one of our future students and have no idea who this could be. All the recent Columbus, Ohio graduates I found in our records are currently employed.

We do not call students ten times a day. We don't operate that way. And despite our excellent job placement services (see data below), we do not guarantee any student a job after graduation. We do guarantee that we will work with every graduate until s/he is employed, and we make good on that promise.

Since January, we have had 14 graduates from Ohio. Of those 14, four graduated this month and are still actively seeking jobs. Eight of the 14 are employed in the HVAC/R industry, with an average starting pay of $13.67/hour. One of the remaining two has accepted and quit an HVAC job since graduation, and has been given 8 interviews and 9 additional job leads by our job placement department. The remaining Ohio graduate went back to the job he had before school, and has declined further job placement assistance.

Since January, each of our Ohio graduates has had an average of 6.86 interviews scheduled for him by our Job Placement Department. Our total national placement rate averages 88.52% for the past two months, and our national average starting pay is $14.27/hour. We deliver what we advertise.

A quick call to the Refrigeration Service Engineer's Society (800-297-5660 or 847-297-6464) or the Alabama Department of Post-Secondary Education (334-242-2900) will confirm our upstanding reputation.
