Let me preface this with the fact that I did research prior to allowing a client to deposit the check and verified this scam for a client.

She received a letter in the mail on what was supposed to be careerbuilder.com letterhead with a very official looking USPS mailing scheme. The letter told her she had been selected to be an evaluator for the company. Later in the letter, however, they say it is necessary to "ascertain your skills as a potential agent." It goes on to instruct that you will receive instructions via email. The letter outlines that you will pose as a potential customer at "the assigned establishment and evaluate the effectiveness, efficiency, and the quality of the customer service rendered."

There was a cashier's check enclosed for $1,999.00 drawn on SAFE Credit Union 3720 Madison Avenue, P.O. Box 1057, North Highlands, CA 95660-1057. The notation at the bottom was Re:  Jason Baker. The name on the return address was Tina Navarre 16843 Kilmer Road, Grass Lake, MI 49240-9141 and looks very legitimate on its face.

The letter instructs the recipient to contact Jason Baker by email at assignments@careerbuildersurvey.com immediately upon receipt of the check. It says you can also send a text to (325) 267-7326.

Please do not fall for this scam. A little checking saved my client a lot of money.
