Complaint Review: Carefree Metal Roofing

Substandard work. Roofers showed up for a couple of hours one day, then a couple hours another day. I stood in my yard and watched as they left an entire corner of the addition without ice/water shield. They asked us for trash bags; apparently the crew is not given the supplies they need. Still finding nails and sharp pieces of roofing all over the yard, even though we specifically asked if the roofers would go over the yard and driveway with a magnet to pick up the stuff thrown around. The workers broke up the pallet that the materials shipped on and threw the pieces in our bushes. Promised a "roof inspector" would come out and OK the roof/make suggestions for the crew to fix before install. No inspector ever came out. We have ice dams. We have a so called "valley" that is about 1/2" high that clogs up and is ruining the ceiling and wall of our addition. The skylights have not been booted properly and now leak. The ridge panel on the shed is installed crooked. A number of the screws to hold the roof down go nowhere. A piece of our home was cut off to make the roof fit, leaving bare wood to rot in the weather. Owner was to come and collect the last check and address any concerns we had; he did not and we were rushed, in the dark, to pay it to the workers. We had to help the workers jam their vehicle with trash so they could leave. Owner Never came back to look the roof over at completion as promised. As a matter of fact, on the sales call, he reeked of beer. Again, not a good business practice. But we needed to get the job done so felt we were stuck.

Owner James Patrick Kenton never responded to MULTIPLE phone calls, emails or texts regarding the issues with the install. Worst money we've ever spent. Ignoring the customer does not help your business. You might want to fix that. Please don't use this company. They had a D rating with BBB at the time in 2016 and I gave them a chance. Very sorry I did so. 15 Months with no contact regarding my issues, so I called the ME AG office. Within two days, I received a call from the owner's lawyer. Then a defamatory video shows up on YouTube making disgusting claims against me and my business. Intimidation tactics aren't going to work here; it simply strengthens my determination to get things right for our home and to warn others.

As for us, we are off to file a complaint with the BBB and the Maine Atty General as well as the local PD for deceptive sales practices and of course that lovely YouTube video. Jim, we PAID YOU IN FULL for this leaking claptrap of a roof and then never saw or heard from you again. NO EXCUSES for ignoring our issues. You should be ashamed of yourself for apparently providing "stellar work" on Some homes (although I have to wonder if all those 5 star reviews are real) and pathetic, leaking, corner cutting work on Other homes. I would love to be one of these "happy 5 star folks" and I told you when we met that if it was done right, you would have a raving fan. You blew it.
