Carlos - was hired to complete a full set of plans for SFR  800sf Addition & ADU. He was hired to perform in 14 days completion. He was paid $1750 deposit. He took the money and never completed the project. Refused to return the money.

Within 2 weeks he showed 4 pages of sketches that were incomplete pages for submittal. He does not have access to Architecture details or plan notes to input on the plans. He continued to want to get more money up front. Over the time I learned that he was going through a custody battle and using methamphetamine. He doesn't have any money and when asked to return the deposit he said he was unable.  You can listen to the phone call @ this link. 

He is incompetent in this field of work and does not possess the ability to process a project of the Single-family scope of work.

Came across this report while searching Carlos Valenzuela Jr for a room addition project. 

I have worked with Carlos in the past with excellent results. It appears by the complaint to imply that Carlos is incompetant & a Meth user appears that the Homeowner did not get his way & is using this website for slander of a fully competant Engineer.

Mr. John Staley (Homeowner), is the [perfect esample of how "scope creep" is sometimes assumed to be a gratuity when clients do not realize the significant change not per the original scope of work.  the original scope of work was the coversion of a 414 SF garage to a living area aDU.  upon confirming the allowable with Planning a total of 402 additional square feet was going to be allowed in addition to the existing 414 SF.  the additional footage  incoluded additional stemwall footings, backfill, new slab and all new to existing footing, wall framing and roof framing details not accounted for.  additionally the roof would require a complete re-design/detail, and the amount of footage, design and detailing for the lateral was increased basically 100%, by doubling the footage.  this was conveyed to Mr. Staley, and he inisted that it has to be for free.  i initially was going to do the he additional work over a weekend mind you without an agreed upon add service agreement, but after realizing he would refuse to pay, i did not bother.  come Monday he fires me for not doing twice as much work for free and expects to have his retainer returned. In 29 years of professional practice i had this happen one time for a project in Costa Mesa and the client realized his error and paid for the additional service.

Additionaly, Mr. Staley in his cooments on his so called rip off report has commited slander in stating that i partake in the recreational use of methamphetamine, which i do not and am in fact clean. mr. Staley will be contacted shortly by counsel to address his crime of slander and Libel.
